Product Safety Manager - Environmental and Human Safety (2100801) - Morrisville, NC

Where the Chemistry Happens…

The main function of this post is to provide environmental and human safety support for our biotechnology products which requires the development of strategies and work programs to respond to actual and anticipated concerns raised by regulatory authorities, other decision makers and public interest groups. Position responsibilities include managing the collection, evaluation, and dissemination of safety information in support of global operations to ensure clearance of traits, employee and customer protection, and compliance with governmental regulations. Although the position is located in the US, the incumbent has responsibility to provide support globally on assigned projects. The incumbent must act sustainably and proactively to ensure that best available science and innovative technologies/solutions can be integrated into global environmental safety assessment strategies. This position is an integral part within the global organization of Regulatory Science Seeds to ensure the safety of and continued clearance for our products.

Formula for Success: You Will…

    Critical evaluation and interpretation of study results and development of experimental programs to ensure safety of current and future traits Compilation of information coming from many studies and sources to develop an in-depth and complete understanding of the environmental safety profile of the product and to prepare an Environmental Risk Assessment. Anticipate and propose solutions for questions about the safety of our biotechnology products to achieve maximum market access and sustainability Advise Research, Regulatory Science and Regulatory Affairs of developments and requirements with respect to data requirements and of any real or perceived safety concerns associated with development of new data, implementation of constantly changing international regulatory policies and increasing efforts by anti-GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) activists to mislead the public, regulators, and elected officials. Assure the scientific, budgetary, and temporal follow-up of all studies under your responsibility to achieve the negotiated objectives, costs, and deadlines. Track and manage dates and forecasts of activities under your responsibility. Participate on interdisciplinary teams for the preparation and submission of safety profiles to obtain clearances for new products and maintain clearances of approved crops.

    Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

    Qualifications

      Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences, toxicology, or a related field with 3 - 5 years of experience, M.S. in Environmental Sciences, toxicology, or a related field with 8 years of experience, B.S. in Environmental Sciences, toxicology, or a related field with 15 years of experience Thinks critically and strategically Demonstrates ability to manage problems outside of normal experience to arrive at innovative strategies and solutions to support our businesses Knowledge of international data requirements and regulatory policies for assessment of biotechnology products Demonstrates leadership ability on technical and strategic issues Effective communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills. Effective management of a wide range of tasks, responding in a timely manner and adjusting and reacting quickly to changing priorities in a variety of situations. Ability to work within a team to accomplish projects that require the cooperation and efforts of several individuals from multiple functions within the company. Basic computer skills, MS Office and email usage. Demonstrated experience in documentation and writing protocols and high-quality technical reports. Process oriented, with strong attention to detail and adherence to procedures and processes. Management of work in a GLP environment.
