JOB DESCRIPTION
The Applied Research position focuses on scientific research, test method development and testing of new products, and advanced materials. A senior Professional position applies advanced knowledge of a job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities:
Leads projects or processes of diverse scope, while working independently with limited supervision
Coaches and reviews the work of lower level professionals
Supports continuous improvement/automation activities
Researches potential new technologies, products and test method development by developing and testing theories on the physical, chemical and/or biological properties of materials and ingredients under various conditions
Devises research methods, prepares technical specifications, and specifies laboratory test equipment and processes
Makes recommendations concerning acquisition and use of new technological equipment and materials
May participate in intellectual property evaluations and development of patent applications
Coordinates pilot-plant or initial production runs on new products or processes
Supports relationships through strong communication and negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders
Creation and management of institutional knowledge
Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a master's degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience
