Job Summary

AKS Engineering & Forestry (AKS) has an immediate opening for a junior-level wetland scientist to join our Natural Resources Team in our Tualatin office. The focus of this position is to support the natural resources needs of the company's private development and public works projects, working closely with our principals and project managers. This is a full-time hourly position reporting to the Senior Wetland Scientist.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in wetland or forest ecology, environmental science/biology, botany, or similar related science.
  • Experience and/or training inconducting wetland and waters delineation using the Regional Supplement to the Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual: Western Mountains, Valleys, and Coast Region is required
  • Knowledge of how to prepare Wetland Delineation Reports in accordance with DSL standards
  • Knowledge of how to conduct Vegetated Corridor Analysis in accordance with Clean Water Services and/or Water Environment Services
  • Pacific Northwest plant identification skills
  • Experience using hand-held Trimble GPS units
  • AutoCAD skills a plus
  • Exceptional report writing skills
  • Experience with applicable software (Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, etc.)
  • Ability to work in a team environment or independently, to manage multiple priorities, and to work efficiently to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work long hours in the field and be able to travel, including overnight on occasions, if necessary, in AKS-provided vehicles.
  • Take personal responsibility for completing quality work within budgets and timelines.
  • Must have valid US drivers license

Job Functions & Responsibilities: This is a full-time position based in the Tualatin office. Typical responsibilities will include:
  • Conducting wetland delineations, ordinary high-water delineations, riparian habitat assessments, plant and wildlife surveys, mitigation monitoring, and other similar field data collection throughout Oregon
  • Gathering online background maps to facilitate with fieldwork
  • Preparing Wetland Delineation Reports
  • Preparing Natural Resource Assessment reports for Goal 5 compliance
  • Preparing Wetland Mitigation Monitoring Reports in accordance with DSL and USACE standards
  • Developing and maintaining effective positive working relationships with co-workers, clients, permitting agency staff, and other project team members.
  • Driving company-owned vehicle to job sites
  • Doing what needs to be done
