Astellas is announcing a Scientist I, Macrophage Biology opportunity at their Astellas Institute of Regenerative Medicine (AIRM) site in Westborough, MA.
Purpose:
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Scientist to join our R&D team and play a key role in developing human pluripotent stem cell (PSC)-derived macrophages for clinical applications. The successful candidate will have a track record of success in a collaborative research environment with proficiency in macrophage biology, various standard immunology and cell biology techniques and a proven ability to plan and execute experiments and analyze data independently. The Scientist will apply their knowledge of macrophage polarization and effector functions towards the generation of an exciting cell therapy opportunity.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Performs research and/or development in collaboration with others.
- Makes detailed observations, analyzes data and interprets results.
- Exercises technical discretion in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project goals.
- Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses.
- Contributes to project process within his/her scientific discipline.
- Investigates, creates and develops new methods and technologies for project advancement.
- Maintains high level of professional expertise through familiarity with scientific literature.
- Uses professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to solve complex problems in creative and effective ways.
Qualifications:
Required
- Education: Ph.D. with 0-3 years, MS with 6+ years, or BS with 8+ years of laboratory experience.
- Hands-on experience with macrophage functional assays for gene expression, protein expression and effector function
- Demonstrated industry experience or academic achievement, e.g. strong publication record or drug development portfolio
- Experience with macrophage polarization and characterization
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Expertise on cell characterization using flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, cell isolation using FACS sorting and magnetic beads isolation, etc.
Preferred
- Experience in human macrophages
- Demonstrated ability to perform differentiations of hematopoietic cells
- Hands on experience with in vivo assays of macrophage function
- Familiarity with lentiviral transduction of mammalian cells
- Experience with human or mouse PSC manipulation
