ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING PRACTICE
We create, integrate, visualize and communicate planning concepts as they move from the initial vision through implementation. Our environmental planning professionals build strong client partnerships, working with residents, businesses, developers, educational and medical organizations, state and local governments, the military and other federal agencies. Our Planning Services Line includes environmental planning, short- and long-term comprehensive planning, housing, hazard mitigation planning, federal planning, resiliency/sustainability, zoning and land use studies and more. The Michael Baker International Environmental team consists of Environmental Planners, Project Managers, Biologists, Archaeologists, and other specialists who support the client in all aspects of environmental planning, permitting, and compliance. DESCRIPTION
Seeking an experienced Environmental Planning professional to join our team in our Seattle, WA Office. The successful candidate will have the flexibility to work remotely at times. Candidate should be interested in all aspects of environmental planning from initial scoping to construction compliance. The position requires knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for preparing or contributing to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and/or National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents for energy, infrastructure, industrial, land development, transportation, aviation or similar projects. Candidates should be well versed in the full suite of California environmental regulations, have a keen understanding of nexus, and experience working with regulating agencies. Additionally, candidates should be experienced in fieldwork activities such as training crews, prescribing and implementing resource and permit avoidance measures, and/or monitoring construction or other activities for compliance with avoidance measures or permit conditions. Duties will include conducting research and performing analysis in order to prepare concise environmental impact sections of CEQA/NEPA documents, defining permitting and avoidance strategies, supporting technical experts in obtaining regulatory permits and construction/operation environmental compliance activities. Candidates should be detail-oriented and have the capability to identify, understand, solve complex issues, and leverage the knowledge and expertise of the full environmental team.

We are looking for an individual who will collaborate with their counterparts to provide expanded, high quality environmental planning services to clients across California. The position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be a self-starter with the flexibility to work both independently and within a team environment with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with staff and clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Contribute to management and delivery of the Environmental Planning project portfolio, client engagement, and growth strategies.

Contribute to strategic planning for the Environmental Planning Practice in Northern California counties focused on opportunities with the state, local agencies, and private markets.

Coordinate with Michael Baker International's West Region Planning team.

Help seek out opportunities with existing and new clients, with the support of Michael Baker International leadership.
Contribute to growth of Environmental Planning service line and support other service lines with proof of technical capabilities and processes that align and support the quality standards of Michael Baker International.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
4 years environmental planning and permitting related experience.
Four-year degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Studies/Sciences, Natural Resource Management, or related field. Master's degree preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to perform environmental planning and permitting related tasks in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Demonstrated success with preparing/contributing to environmental assessment documents (e.g., CEQA and NEPA) matching that of our primary business sectors, such as Transportation, Water, Power, and the Public Sector.

Knowledge/experience of the Caltrans Standard Environmental Reference and/or CPUC General Order 131-D preferred.
Demonstrated client and/or regulatory agency engagement experience. Presentation and public outreach experience preferred.
Effective communication skills.

Strategic thinker with initiative to help advance our multi-disciplined services.

LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS
AICP preferred but not required.
