The Gamete Biologist is responsible for performing all aspects of in vitro fertilization procedures under direct supervision. The position is composed of embryology and andrology related duties. These tasks include media preparation, ovum pick up by harvest procedure, maintaining cell cultures, insemination, testicular aspiration or biopsy procedures, fertilization checks, blastocyst culture, transfer of embryos by catheter, cryopreservation and thawing of human embryos, assisted hatching and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Duties in andrology include semen analysis and semen preparation for ART procedures.
Essential Functions

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).

• Accurate maintenance of laboratory records, including proficiency testing, quality control, equipment maintenance, monitoring and calibration, patient test and clinical procedure records, deviations from established performance specifications and corrective actions taken.

• Identify problems which may adversely affect patient test or procedure results, and either rectify the problem or report it to the laboratory director, scientific advisor or laboratory supervisor; Solves problems using available reference material when necessary.• Maintains neat, legible and complete written records of work performed and performs additional record keeping or data analysis as required or requested.

• Performance of routine laboratory maintenance; ordering and stocking laboratory supplies.

• Performs embryology and andrology related procedures - media preparation, ovum pick up by harvest procedure, maintaining cell cultures, insemination, testicular aspiration or biopsy procedures, fertilization checks, blastocyst culture, transfer of embryos by catheter, cryopreservation and thawing of human embryos, assisted hatching and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

• Responsible for compiling accurate data for CDC/SART reporting.

• Responsible for performing all aspects of in vitro fertilization procedures. Performance of all the duties required in the REI/IVF laboratories.

• Strict adherence to all established safety regulations as outlined in the Universal Precautions/Infection Control Policy (Policy #P005).
Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university

Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible and directly related work experience

• Knowledge and proficiency in micromanipulation Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).

• Knowledge and proficiency in stem cell culture and somatic cell nuclear transfer.

• Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.

• Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility.

• Knowledge of new technologies (in specific field) and maintain and stay abreast of updates and changes.
