This position will be reporting to the Plant Manager and is accountable for environmental compliance functions and activities. Responsibilities include training, compliance surveillance, testing, reporting and permitting for all environmental matters. Works with corporate environmental officer to implement compliance strategies and maintain compliance with all operating permits and regulations.

Key Accountabilities
•Managing all environmental compliance activities with emphasis on air and waste water compliance
•Compiling emissions inventory and communicate results
•Preparing and submitting permit applications and required compliance reports
•Organizing and participating in emission monitoring activities
•Review and evaluate emission reports
•Provide environmental training to employees
•Developing a plan for ISO 14000 Environmental Management system compliance
•Responding to regulatory inquiries, requests, correspondence and enforcement actions
•Provide expert opinion and technical support for environmental activities to all departments
•Collaborating with other key internal functional areas to assure on-going compliance (e.g., Engineering, Production and Maintenance)
•Effectively engage with third party consultants
•Assist in development and implementation of effective risk assessment/Management procedures and programs
•Initiating, designing, developing, maintaining and monitoring existing and comprehensive environmental program that assures compliance with current, emerging and/or changing, federal, state and local regulations and support/align with company policies
•Conducting internal environmental audits to identify deficiencies and ensure compliance. Track to closure all identified corrective/remedial actions
•Support negotiations with federal, state and local regulatory agencies on environmental risk and liability exposure issues
•Working closely with internal/external counsel and operations personnel to ensure alignment of approach/strategy leading to successful outcomes
•Participating and assisting in incident investigations to identify causes and recommend corrections. Track to closure all identified corrective/remedial actions
•Participating in industry approved professional environmental organizations
•Participating in SGL ACF Excellence Initiatives (Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, etc.)

Job Requirements
•Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental, Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
•Minimum of 5 years of environmental engineering experience in heavy manufacturing or chemical processing industry.
•Work experience with Title V air quality permits, emission inventory reports, storm water and industrial NPDES permits, SARA 313 and SARA tier 2 reports

Preferred Qualifications
•Proven ability to proactively address environmental concerns within organization as well as with external organizations, including regulators.
•Proven positive leadership, drive and assertive approach to work responsibilities.
•Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and make informed decisions and manage all environmental risks and liabilities
•Ability to interpret all environmental related reports/data and have expertise to perform complex mathematical operations to explain and expose risks and deficiencies in all processes to eliminate liabilities
•Working knowledge of statistical tools and analysis
•Ability to self manage and interact with all levels of employees and management to ensure effective and efficient work environment
•Strong background in using Microsoft Office applications including Visio
•Strong and effective communication skills
