Applications are being accepted for the following vacancy on the Management Confidential staff of Hudson Valley Community College, Troy, New York.

Director of Environmental Health and Safety HV-MC-19

In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not sponsor Visas. Qualifications for Employment

Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in an area of Environmental Health and Safety, such as Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Environmental Science, or a degree in a scientific or engineering discipline and relevant experience in the field of environmental health and safety; at least 7 years of professional level work experience in the field of environmental health and safety; the demonstrable knowledge of current and proposed environmental, health and safety regulations and ability to provide evidence of recent continuing educational effort. Professional certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), a Master's degree, 3 years' experience at a managerial level in the field of Environmental Health and Safety, and experience in an educational environment preferred.

II. Nature and Scope of Duties

The Director of Environmental Health and Safety reports to the Vice President for Administration and performs the following duties:

1. Supervises development and administration of the Campus Environmental Health and Safety Program with strong emphasis on strategic planning, preventive practices and training process;

2. Develops written protocols/programs for departments impacted by OSHA/PESHA, EPA, DEC or other statute and/or regulation; maintains all copies of safety-related manuals/documents in compliance with applicable statute/regulation.;

3. Facilitates/ensures campus compliance with OSHA/PESHA, EPA, DEC, NYS Fire Code and any other applicable statutes or regulations;

4. Schedules, assists and/or conducts training programs requisite to compliance with prevailing standards from hazard communication, lab safety, blood borne pathogens, confined space, lockout/tag out, or other statute/regulation and maintains records of such training as required by regulation or College policy;

6. Serves as the College's risk manager in the areas of EHS.

7. Serves as liaison to the appropriate State and Federal regulating agencies.

8. Investigates, collects and maintains data on employee/student injuries and illnesses.

9. Serves as the Storm Water Management Officer for campus operations and the Chemical Hygiene Officer.

10. Performs spot or facility-wide safety audits/inspections to ensure compliance; performs post-audit follow-up activities including conferences, corrective and performance action; maintains associated records and prepares reports as necessary.

11. Initiates and/or participates in investigation of EHS infractions and prosecution of resulting disciplinary actions where appropriate;

12. Oversees and coordinates hazardous waste, universal waste and medical waste programs

13. Serves as Liaison with Local Authority Having Jurisdiction and NYSOFPC for compliance with NYS Uniform Fire Prevention. Conducts audits and training, and oversees corrective action.

14. Continuously reviews regulatory requirements that may impact campus operation; recommends modifications of process, equipment, training where indicated; oversees and assists in implementation of changes;

15. Maintains effective communication and working relationships with the Director of Public Safety and staff, Director of Faculties and staff, Deans and Department Chairpersons and the Office of Human Resources of regulation-impacted subject matters.

16. Oversees and monitors sustainability efforts on campus.

17. Serves as the Chair of the Environmental Campus Safety Committee, Sustainability Committee, Radiation Safety Committee. Serves as a member of the Emergency Preparedness Committee.

18. Provides direct supervision to Environmental Health and Safety Specialist.

19. Prepares and submits reports to and maintains permits with regulatory agencies, including air emissions testing reports and capping certifications, hazardous waste report, storm water MS4 report, Tier II report, Pesticide annual report, Facility Air Permit, Pesticide business and applicator registrations, Radiation Installation Registration

20. Manages department budget and contracts for inspection of safety and life safety systems including: fire alarms, sprinklers and suppression systems, elevators, fire extinguishers, fume hoods, biosafety cabinets, automotive lifts, theatre rigging and forklifts.

21. Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Administration.

The Salary Range is $80,000-$85,000
