Job Description:
CDM Smith is seeking a talented scientist to join our research team in our Research and Testing Laboratory in Bellevue, WA. This position involves conducting cutting-edge treatability and laboratory research projects for a variety of clients across CDM Smith's wastewater, drinking water, water reuse, environment, and energy markets as well as commercializing potentially applicable treatment technologies from the bench- to pilot-/full-scale across the aforementioned disciplines. The ideal candidate should be team-oriented, have a high attention to detail, and should be comfortable independently designing and executing research projects, leading research proposal efforts. The ideal candidate should exhibit the following characteristics:
Expertise in the areas of drinking water, water reuse, and/or wastewater.
Strong writing skills to lead research proposals, work plans, technical reports, and peer-reviewed publication.
Demonstrated strong verbal communication skills and comfortable with giving presentations to internal and external clients and audiences.
Good understanding of the current state of research on emerging contaminants such as PFAS as it relates to environmental, drinking water and wastewater applications.
Demonstrated understanding of chemistry, fate and transport, and potentially applicable treatment technologies pertinent to emerging contaminants including PFAS.
Experience in independently designing, setting up, and executing bench-scale batch or column experiments using conventional and novel drinking water/wastewater treatment techniques. Experience in running UV, ozone, filtration (granular activated carbon, biological filtration, membrane filtration, reverse osmosis) and/or other water treatment analyses at the bench- and/or pilot-/full-scale level is preferred.
Understanding of chemical and biological hazards and considerations at the laboratory scale.
Independent data analysis and interpretation experience.
Experience adhering to budget, scope, and schedule constraints. Experience developing scopes of work, subcontracts and budgetary estimates a plus

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Science or related discipline. 5 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
Preferred Qualifications:
3 minimum years of laboratory experience since MS degree in a relevant science discipline.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in an engineering discipline.
Knowledge of R or other statistical software.

Skills and Abilities:
Intermediate knowledge of standard field protocols for their respective discipline. Intermediate knowledge of scientific methods and processes. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communication.
