Scope, & Impact:

The Environmental Director, Climate & Carbon Manger will lead The Coca-Cola Company's climate protection program and implementation of carbon reduction strategy to meet system's commitment on reducing the carbon footprint. The Job position will provide thought leadership and the required support to the system for developing their decarbonization roadmap, in line with the methodology of science-based targets.

The job position will play an active leadership role in the ‘Global Environment Council' (GEC) and will play a critical role in ‘operationalizing sustainability' across the system. The position will work with sustainability leaders and climate managers of all Operating Units and Bottling system globally and will drive active projects under climate workstream of the council.
  • The job position will be responsible for orchestrating system carbon/climate Knowledge sharing and will drive the innovation agenda in this space.
  • The job position will serve as a subject matter expert for climate & energy. Builds system capability on requirements of greenhouse gas emissions, methodology on Science Based Targets and calculations of carbon footprints across supply chain (scope 1, 2 and 3). The job position will keep pace with the evolving methodology on estimating the greenhouse gas ‘emissions and removals' and will build system capability to adapt the same. Leads the technical aspects on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies of various ingredients and packaging materials to establish their carbon footprint.
  • Leads the energy resource efficiency program for the system globally, analyze data and identify opportunities and levers to enhance energy efficiency in the operations globally.
  • The job position plays a crucial role in enabling the digitization journey of the company w.r.t data around Sustainability. The job position proactively gets involved early, on all digitization projects and will support introduction of right data structures & interlinkages of various data sets by providing and validating various calculations with respect to greenhouse gas inventories. The scope of the work covers to ensure enterprise level internal and external accurate, best-in-class (1) reporting of climate related aspects of sustainability, (2) governance of the related data, (3) continuous improvement in the process of capturing and evaluating Environmental metrics of the system.
  • Focuses on building external network and as a subject matter expert, participate in various industry forums & industry coalitions focusing on activities related to climate / carbon.
  • Works very closely with cross functional team members from Public Affairs Communications and Sustainability (PACS) and provide required support and inputs on all technical aspects of climate management and reporting.
  • Individual contributor with global impact on operational sustainability with respect to Environment, Climate and Carbon.
  • The position will report to Global sustainability and transformation director. The role will require continuous connection and collaboration with all Operating Units (OU), Sustainability team & leadership at bottling system, various Corporate functions like PACS, Cross enterprise procurement group (CEPG), Platform services, Global IT (GIT), Corporate QSE functions & company partners to drive climate and carbon objectives.
  • The strategic footprint of the role spans across all OUs, focusing on climate/carbon pillar, enabling progress in building operational sustainability culture and capability.
  • The role has also influential impact over the OU & enterprise performance enablement strategy with respect to carbon reduction.
  • The goals and strategies for the role focus on short-term (1 year), mid-term (2-3 years) and long term (3+ years) development of the TI&SC Climate Strategy, Programs, Goals & Targets and define governance on tracking progress.

Focus Areas:
  • Driving Climate and Carbon Goals: As a key member of the Corporate QSE team, leads to define and steward the Technical Innovation &Supply Chain (TI&SC) environment, climate & carbon strategy, commitments, initiatives, and prioritization to enable the system to meet the climate commitments. Working with Sustainability leaders form Bottling and Operating units, ensures development and implementation of carbon reduction roadmap across geographies.
  • Operationalizing Sustainability: The job position provides leadership and anchors the climate pillar of Global Environment Council (GEC) and drive business relevant projects through active workstreams which will have team members from operating units and bottling system. Leads proactive engagement within the council members and form a network of highly passionate & capable system associates for driving these projects.
  • Building System Capability: As a subject matter expert, invests in developing the capability of sustainability leaders from bottling system and operating units in environment management, climate, and carbon. This will include building capability on the requirements of greenhouse gas emissions, methodology on Science Based Targets, calculations of carbon footprints across supply chain (scope 1, 2 and 3), requirement of reporting, new technologies in field of renewable energy and energy resource efficiency.
  • Enhancing digital capability: Leveraging the subject knowledge, the job position will enable and support project(s) to digitize collection, analysis and reporting of all Environmental metrics including greenhouse gas inventories. The job position will be responsible to provide technical inputs and requirements for accurately calculating various metrics and carrying out analytics on collected system data for driven performance measures and commitments
  • Governance, compliance: Ensure all climate data governance requirements are in place, tracked and continuously improved.

  • Proactive, self-motivated individual who enjoys advocating for sustainability inside and outside of the company. This includes leading or supporting education initiatives for our employees, including advancing our Corporate Sustainability Reporting, as well as business development pursuits with our industry partners.
  • Drive engagement with the system partners and lead climate protection program and implementation of carbon reduction strategy to meet system's commitment on reducing the carbon footprint. Implementation of carbon reduction roadmap to ensure continuous improvement across all key climate & carbon metrics.
  • Enhance system capability in all areas of climate protection and carbon reduction. Serve as an SME and central contact point for functional groups (Operating Units and Bottling system) on climate.
  • Develop strategic recommendations around climate protection and carbon reduction for the system to adopt and continuously meet sustainability commitments.


Communication Focus

Influence and alignment with stakeholders at most senior levels internally and externally, including OU leadership, Corporate QSE leadership, System Franchise Bottling partners QSE leadership.
  • Work with internal networks - PACS, CEPG, GIT, Platform Services, and other Corporate functions.
  • Deal predominately with situations where other parties have shared interests or opposing interests related to operational sustainability agenda development and implementation plans.
  • Think outside-in and is well connected, involve a broader set of stakeholders in decision making.
  • Communication, negotiation, and engagement with multiple key stakeholders to influence and gain alignment on the short- and the long- term operational sustainability strategies and investments.


Experience

Bachelor's degree in Environment engineering, or equivalent discipline (Masters preferred) and 10-15 years' work experience with a multi-national company in field of energy and/or climate protection management or in climate protection consulting with manufacturing clients. Should have knowledge about various elements of manufacturing supply chain.

Functional Skills
  • In-depth understanding of greenhouse gas protocols
  • In-depth knowledge about science-based carbon reduction methodologies.

  • Understanding about Life Cycle Assessment Methodologies for various ingredients, packaging and projects with respect to carbon footprint.
