Job Description
Specific Responsibilities:

Seeking a highly motivated, creative and collaborative individual with a strong passion for and dedication to the discovery of new life-saving medicines. The candidate will join our internal efforts focused on the research and development of novel treatment, prevention and HIV cure therapeutics, including small molecule drugs, biologics and vaccines. The successful candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment to support the discovery and optimization of novel small molecules for HIV treatment and prevention. Primary responsibilities will include conducting in vitro virology studies to characterize newly discovered molecules as well as designing and evaluating new targets and therapeutic approaches in a fast-paced team environment. The successful candidate would be expected to:

Lead the HIV virology efforts on cross-functional research teams
Conduct a variety of anti-HIV assays in cell lines and primary cells
Conduct in-depth characterization of mechanisms of antiviral activity
Characterize in vitro resistance profiles of lead compounds and/or biologics
Implement new technologies and assay automation into the Virology group
Identify, evaluate, and support external collaborations that complement and/or expand research goals
Make effective use of literature and CROs to complement research activities
Directly manage scientists and/or research associates in a thoughtful manner
Develop, execute and troubleshoot assays and provide experimental guidance and growth opportunities to direct reports
Regularly document research findings in electronic notebook entries
Effectively write/edit documents to support regulatory and IP submissions, research manuscripts and public disclosures
Potentially lead multidisciplinary research teams
Present regular research updates to project teams and R&D management

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

PhD in molecular biology, virology, immunology or relevant life science discipline

Minimum of 3-5 years post-PhD research experience, including industry experience, focused on innovative research in virology with proven achievements in industrial or academic settings.

Strong level of understanding and expertise in virology, viral immunology and/or drug discovery.

Experience with a broad array of technologies and automation to support assay development and discovery research is highly desired.

Hands-on experience and broad expertise in molecular biology, virology techniques, and cell culture including primary cell isolation and culture is required. Experience in assay development, ability to evaluate quality of the data, recognize anomalous results and interpret experimental outcomes is essential. Experience with immune cell functional assays including multi-color FACS and ELISA/Luminex is ideal.

Prior experience managing direct reports.

Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively within the Virology group and multidisciplinary groups within Research.
