What's the Opportunity?

Anchor QEA is seeking a full-time junior to mid-levelNatural Resources Biologist for one of our offices in Washington (Bellingham, Seattle, Tacoma, or Wenatchee). The position may also require some travel to participate in client meetings, public meetings, fieldwork, or site visits. The applicant will have demonstrated experience conducting natural resources fieldwork (e.g., wetland delineations, vegetation surveys, habitat surveys); conducting ecological, regulatory, or similar analyses in support of State and National Environmental Policy Acts (SEPA/NEPA); preparing permit applications and other technical documents in support of federal, state, and local environmental regulations; developing and reviewing documents, status reports, and deliverables; and completing quality control review of documents. An understanding of and experience with fluvial, coastal, wetland, or estuarine ecosystems is desired. We are interested in a candidate who is a quick learner, detail-orientated, and a committed team player.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Support senior staff on a wide range of capital infrastructure and other projects, including preparation of environmental assessments and environmental impact statements under SEPA/NEPA, habitat assessments, wetland delineations, and reports, Endangered Species Act documents, and other related permitting and environmental documents
Support and conduct interdisciplinary desktop and field surveys, including wetland delineations and habitat assessments (plants, wildlife, and/or fish); collect, organize, and analyze field survey data, and summarize results

Respond to the agency, tribal, and public comments and questions on permit applications, along with natural resources documentation
Evaluate environmental impacts and mitigation measures to offset impacts
Assist in developing scopes and budgets for natural resource, permitting, and planning projects

Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments

What Are We Looking For?

Ideal candidates will have the following:

B.S. or M.S. in ecology, fish or wildlife biology, natural resources management, environmental science, or a related discipline
Understanding of or interest in Habitat Equivalency Analysis (HEA), Puget Sound Nearshore Conservation Calculator, credit/debit method, or acre-based method for impact and mitigation assessments
Background in applying biology and ecology to environmental regulations, especially SEPA and/or NEPA
3 to 5 years of experience performing ecological or biological research and strong writing skills
Understanding of the permitting processes in Washington
Willingness and desire to support field assignments up to 40% of the time
Ability to pursue certification or complete training as a Washington State Department of Transportation Biological Assessment author
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and multiple concurrent projects/tasks,working both in teams and independently
Ability to excel in a fast-paced, client service-oriented team environment and proven ability to work across disciplines internally and externally
Strong professional written and verbal communications skills
