About the Job

Oversee, under direction of principal investigator (PI), various research duties on the research project for which the PI has received funding. Positions available may be in areas of soil, water, and atmospheric research; soil physical management and conservation of soil and water resources; management of agricultural chemicals and pollutants for water quality maintenance and crop production; plant nutrient management for crop production and environmental protection; systems management of the agroecoenvironment; precision agriculture; and related soil, water, and climatological research.

These positions are all funded by grants and as faculty receive funding on their grant proposals, they look through this pool of applicants to see who best fits their needs on the project for which they have received funding Hires are made throughout the fiscal year from 07/01 - 06/30 and if you want your application to remain active you will need to reapply every fiscal year.

Restrictions: may only be used for short term appointments in three instances: 1) to allow visitors who lack faculty credentials to participate in specialized research or additional training; or 2) for completion of terms of appts. for research assistants upon completion of the degree; or 3) for individuals hired as research assistants pending completion of Graduate School admission. Visitors may hold this appt. no longer than three years. Others may hold the appt. no longer than one year. This appointment does not provide a career track and carries limited benefits.

The mission of the Department of Soil, Water, and Climate is to advance the understanding of Earth system processes and the interactions among land, atmosphere, and water. Through research, teaching, and extension we seek to:
  • improve and protect the quality of soil, air, and water resources in natural and managed ecosystems;
  • enhance agricultural and forest productivity and sustainability;
  • predict and mitigate impacts of environmental and climate change on ecosystems and society; and
  • provide science-based knowledge for improved decision making and a better informed citizenry.
