Scientist, R&D Microbiology - Skillman, NJ or Fort Washington, PA

This Scientist, R&D Microbiology will support new product development for the Zarbee's Business Unit of J&J Consumer Sector. This position will interact with product development teams, R&D Quality & Compliance staff, Raw Material Center as well as the Global R&D Microbiology team. The scientist will review formulations and select the best preservation options, suggest manufacturing process improvements, manage relationship with testing laboratories, and participate as a member of the Global Microbiology team. Primary focus will be on dietary supplements products and cosmetics.
The Scientist, R&D Microbiology will be responsible for:
- New product development and launches, responsible for AET, Aw, pH, specifications, stability recommendations and documentation.
- Micro robustness of Zarbee's innovation and base business.
- Specification setting and justification for dietary supplements and related products.
- Specification review for finished products and raw materials.
- Test methodology assessments for finished products and raw materials.
- Data review of R&D microbiology documentation including technical review of formulations, stability results (including antimicrobial effectiveness), method suitability and method validation.
- Manage relationship with testing laboratories.
- New testing labs validation.
- Technical assessments support related to micro investigations.
- Training, compliance, talent development, global microbiology projects.
- Represent R&D Microbiology on internal product development and launch teams. Participate on Global R&D Microbiology Team.
- Occasional support to LCM / Tech Ops and Quality as needed.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree is required, Masters (MS) degree preferred; preferably in Microbiology or other biological science such as Plant Science, Food Science or Biology with lab work in Microbiology.
- At least 2 years of experience working in Microbiology is required.
- Previous experience using aseptic technique, microscopy, using an autoclave, preparing media, isolating and identifying microbes is required.
- Understanding of USP, FDA regulations and GMP is required.
- Experience with Dietary Supplements and cosmetics products is preferred.
- Experience with working under limited supervision to resolve technical issues under aggressive and sometimes compressed timelines.
- Strong communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills, self-awareness and adaptability required.
- The ability to interact with cross-functional and global teams to implement timely solutions.
The position will be located in Skillman, NJ or Fort Washington, PA.
