Position Summary:
Catalent is seeking an Associate Scientist who will be responsible for the production and purification of antibodies to support the development of therapeutic ADC candidates. The position will be reporting to the Group Leader, Protein Sciences.
This position is based in Emeryville, CA, 94608 in the EmeryStation West campus, at 5959 Horton St., easily accessible by BART / EmeryGoRound, AMTRAK, or car (with private, secured, on-site parking provided.)
Catalent Biologics Emeryville, CA site, formerly the startup company Redwood Bioscience, has developed a proprietary approach for site-specific bioconjugation to produce next-generation antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). This technology, termed SMARTag®, is based on use of the aldehyde-tag site-specific protein modification technology and Catalent's novel conjugation chemistry and proprietary, stable linkers. SMARTag® is a clinical-stage technology, with its first ADC-TRPH-222-beginning Phase 1 clinical trials in 2019. The Catalent Biologics Emeryville site comprises a small, close-knit team of scientists working cross-functionally with each other to nimbly achieve our goals and milestones. We are a research site, working to develop therapeutic ADC drug candidates for clinical testing. We also continuously strive to improve and expand our technology platform. The team has a focus on publishing results and contributing to the exciting and dynamic field of bioconjugation and drug conjugates.

The Role:
- Maintain cell lines and cell culture equipment for protein production;
- Produce proteins to the needs of both internal and external programs using transient or stable transfection;
- Medium and/or high throughput antibody gene cloning;
- DNA sequence analysis and modification with commercial software;
- Antibody purification using FPLC;
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as a high degree of personal and professional integrity while interacting with internal and external stakeholders;
- Contribute to multi-disciplinary teams;
- Meet project deadlines;
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment and deliver high quality results;
- Ability to adapt to changing situations while providing ideas and solutions;
The Candidate:
- BS in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline with 8+ years of additional research experience; or MS in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline with 3+ years of additional research experience;
- The candidate must have significant DNA cloning/molecular biology experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Strong preferred experience in cell culture / cell line maintenance experience in the biopharmaceutical industry strong preferred, protein purification experience (such as with an AKTA FPLC), Antibody discovery experience, experience of stable cell line generation, antibody characterization and protein engineering, and transient transfection for protein expression,
- Proven track record of problem solving, data management, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams and establishing and meeting production goals that consistently meet quality requirements is essential;
