Role Description:

We are seeking an experienced Computational Biologist/Bioinformatician to contribute to the Translational Genomics team at Jounce. This position will take ownership of our high-performance computing and bioinformatics pipelines and workflows, working closely with both bioinformatics analysts and wet lab scientists to increase team capabilities and efficiency. In this role, you will be responsible for implementation and maintenance of next generation sequencing (NGS) pipelines and will work with teams to design experiments to identify new targets and interrogate immune oncology pathways. Responsibilities will include upkeep of cancer immunotherapy databases and resources, and administration of bioinformatics cloud-based servers and systems. The ideal candidate will have a record of applying state-of-the-art NGS methods to understand biological systems, the ability to understand and explain nuances between algorithms, and the capacity to guide our team on pipeline tool selection.

  • Contribute to translational genomics strategy and participate in research team meetings to proactively suggest new ways to impact programs from discovery through the clinic
  • Develop novel algorithms and implement, validate, and maintain shared pipelines for processing of NGS data (targeted/whole exome, RNA, single cell, TCR, and/or BCR sequencing) and downstream analyses (e.g. TMB, HLA typing, MSI status determination, differential transcript expression)
  • Keep our portfolio of bioinformatics tools cutting edge by evaluating and recommending pipeline algorithms based on statistical quality and performance metrics on real and simulated data sets
  • Lead efforts to further build out cloud-based bioinformatics high performance computing capabilities in partnership with our Research Informatics team
  • Administer our cloud-based LINUX server, including package maintenance, software compilation, and team support
  • Manage existing high-dimensional data resources and ingest new public and internal data sets for use by team members
  • Use best practices for reproducible research and data stewardship

  • Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field with 0-5 years of experience or a MS with 10+ years of relevant experience required
  • Experience with public cancer biology databases and an understanding of how to utilize big data to drive discovery efforts
  • Experience developing novel algorithms, implementing and managing NGS pipelines across a variety of different data types, and aiding in the design of experiments to deepen understanding of biology
  • Deep understanding of next generation sequencing (NGS) methods and how upstream sample preparation and processing may affect sequencing results and their interpretation
  • Strong hands-on programming skills (R/Bioconductor, Python, SQL, Bash scripting or similar)
  • Proficiency in LINUX system administration, shell scripting, software compilation, and version control systems
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or similar cloud-computing services
  • Experience with machine learning, statistical modeling, and/or pathway/network analysis is beneficial
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and data analytical skills
  • Highly organized and motivated individual, able to work well in a group setting as well as independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritize and deliver research in a fast-paced, milestone-driven environment

Company Overview

Jounce Therapeutics, Inc. is a clinical-stage immunotherapy company dedicated to transforming the treatment of cancer by developing therapies that enable the immune system to attack tumors and provide long-lasting benefits to patients through a biomarker-driven approach. Jounce currently has multiple development stage programs ongoing while simultaneously advancing additional early-stage assets from its robust discovery engine based on its Translational Science Platform. Jounce's most advanced product candidate, vopratelimab, is a monoclonal antibody that binds to and activates ICOS, and is currently being studied in the SELECT Phase 2 trial. JTX-4014 is a PD-1 inhibitor intended for combination use in the SELECT trial and with Jounce's broader pipeline. Jounce's next development stage product candidate, JTX-8064, is a LILRB2 (ILT4) receptor antagonist shown to reprogram immune-suppressive tumor associated macrophages to an anti-tumor state. A Phase 1 trial evaluating JTX-8064 is planned to begin enrollment in the fourth quarter of 2020. Additionally, Jounce exclusively licensed worldwide rights to JTX-1811, a monoclonal antibody targeting CCR8 and designed to selectively deplete T regulatory cells in the tumor microenvironment, to Gilead Sciences, Inc.
