Overview:
The Senior Biologist, Primary Cells is responsible for performing a variety of complex laboratory procedures to develop primary cell-based products, services and standards for life science research. With guidance from the supervisor, the Senior Biologist will be expected to be able to design and perform experiments as assigned, interpret results and develop weekly experimental plans based on results obtained. The Senior Biologist will also perform routine maintenance of laboratory supplies and equipment. Performance will be evaluated with respect to the quality and rigor of project execution, adherence to timeline, productivity and contribution to team and organizational goals. The Senior Biologist supports and complies with all ACS and ATCC corporate policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for execution of product development related activities in the Primary Cell Team including development of methods of the isolation, expansion and cryopreservation of a wide variety of primary cells and development/optimization of growth media. Responsibilities includes feasibility testing, development and troubleshooting.Performing cell-based assays including but not limited to protein assays, metabolic assays, PCR, ELISA and various biochemical assays using live cells or cellular derivatives.Helping to establish and maintain excellent working conditions with existing and new external tissue provision organizations and knowledge of and adherence to current HIPAA and other relevant information and policies.Development of robust SOPs for tech transfer of new and/or improved methods to Operations and support of projects through successful tech transfer.Maintain detailed records of the laboratory works performed.Develops appropriate application data to support posters at scientific conferences, webinars, website content, IP filings and other needs, as appropriate.Reads and understands relevant scientific literature and brings new product development ideas into the pipeline.Will participate in product development Core Teams.May informally mentor or supervise junior staff.Manage activities efficiently and effectively to meet program timelines and performance requirements in alignment with team and corporate goals.Embraces the ATCC Mission, directives and corporate goals.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:Bachelors degree in a science relatedfield plus 4-8 years of relevant experience ORMaster's degree in a science related field plus 3-5 years of relevant experience.The isolation, expansion and cryopreservation of a variety of primary cell types, including human cell isolation expertise is required. Prior experience in conducting independent laboratory research projects is essential. Prior experience in developing commercial products is highly desirable. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:In-depth knowledge and hands-on expertise in the isolation and handling of a variety of primary cell types including the ability to identify and isolate specific cell types from different human and animal tissues.Hands on experience with protein assays, metabolic assays, qPCR, ELISA using cellular derivatives.Ideal candidate will have working expertise in hepatic biology for primary hepatic cell product development.
