Company Description:

Molecular Templates (MTEM) is a publicly traded, clinical-stage oncology company focused on the discovery and development of differentiated, targeted, biologic therapeutics. The company's proprietary biologic drug platform technology, referred to as engineered toxin bodies (ETBs), provides a differentiated mechanism of action that may address some of the limitations associated with currently available cancer therapeutics. ETBs utilize a genetically engineered form of Shiga-like Toxin A subunit (SLTA), a ribosome inactivating bacterial protein genetically fused to an antibody binding domain (scFv or VHH), that can be targeted to and specifically destroy cancer cells. MTEM has three drugs in the clinic and partnerships with Bristol Myers Squibb, Takeda and Vertex. For more information, please visit MTEM's website at www.MTEM.com.

Position Overview:

MTEM is seeking a highly motivated individual to help build an antibody discovery group. This hands-on position involves generation and screening of antibodies to be used in the company's ETB scaffold for the development of novel therapeutics. This position will join a team in support of therapeutic antibody discovery programs. The ideal candidate will have hands on experience in plate-based PCR amplification of antibody variable regions and expression in both bacterial and mammalian systems.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Design and execute strategies to amplify and clone antibody variable regions from both B-cell and phage display libraries.
  • Optimization of primers and DNA templates.
  • Plate-based bacterial transduction and mammalian transfection, expression and purification.
  • Perform antibody purification in support of Screening technologies team
  • Support high throughput screening of phage panning and Bcell outputs.
  • Analyze antibody sequence data (Sanger and/or NGS)
  • Maintain Laboratory stocks and reagents and serve as a mentor to junior staff
  • Keeps a detailed and well-organized electronic laboratory notebook
  • Presents data at group meetings
  • Stays current with literature and emerging trends in the discipline

  • Master's Degree and a minimum of 4 years of experience in an antibody discovery team in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in amplifying, cloning and expressing antibodies.
  • Working knowledge of high-throughput plate-based processes.
  • Expertise in molecular biology techniques (PCR, cloning, primer design, plasmid preparation, etc.).
  • Experience with plate-based expression in bacterial and mammalian platforms.
  • Use of DNA sequence analysis/editing using tools such as Geneious Biologics or Prime.
  • Handling and manipulation of bacterial cultures.
  • Antibody purification techniques and characterization.
  • Experience with B cell cloning and Phage display.
  • Familiarity with formatting scFV and vHH/nanobodies
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in parallel to deliver results in rapid timeframes
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment
