Job Overview:
APTIM, a leading engineering firm with a global presence and a thriving environmental and infrastructure practice, is pleased to announce an immediate opening in our Concord, CA office for a mid-level Geologist or Environmental Scientist. This position has tremendous flexibility, growth and career development potential for a passionate Geoscientist.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- The position will involve preparation of field sampling plans, overseeing field sampling and environmental site assessment (Phase 1, Phase 2, ESA), managing groundwater treatment systems, overseeing source removals, managing waste disposal on petroleum and hazardous waste sites.
- Work will also entail oversight of regulatory compliance audits (EPCRA, SPCCs, air permits, waste, etc.) at for retail and telecommunication clients.
- Development of plans, specifications, analyses, evaluations, maps, position papers, procedures and reports.
- Collection and interpretation of field, laboratory, and other scientific data.
- Interactions with regulatory agencies (CUPA, LOP, RWQCB, DTSC) to develop project objectives/cleanup standards.
- Ensure conformance to applicable technical standards as well as company policies and procedures.
- Review of applicable regulations that may impact project scope.
- Communication of technical concepts, evaluation results, plans, reports, etc. via oral and written reporting; and ensures conformance to applicable technical standards as well as company policies and procedures.
- Working with GPS and strong knowledge of field sampling equipment operation is required.
Qualifications/Competencies/Experience:
- Bachelors of Science degree in Geology, Environmental Science or related field of study required.
- Registration as a California professional geologist or geologist-in-training is preferred.
- Must possess excellent report writing, organization and project management skills with the ability to work in the field and have 40-hour OSHA-HAZWOPER training certification (no exceptions).
- Some travel within California is expected.
- 5-7 years of experience in the environmental field.
- Demonstrably strong technical/scientific writing skills.
- Experience with soil sample collection using hand auger, drill rig, and DPT systems.
- Experience with monitor well installation using hand auger, drill rig, and DPT systems.
- Experience with groundwater sample collection.
