The coatings team works closely with Saint Gobain's various business units to solve problems, develop new products, and improve production processes. The candidate will be expected to design and execute experiments, analyze results, and present the findings in both written and oral formats. The candidate will work within the Wet Coatings Processing Technology team. The team works closely with Saint-Gobain's various business units to improve production processes, solve problems, and develop new products. The candidate will be expected to design and execute experiments, analyze results, and present the findings in both written and oral formats in the areas of formulation, mixing, pumping, fluid handling, web handling, industrial automation, and/or coating processes. While not expected to be an expert in all these areas, the candidate must be able to research and understand new areas of process technology quickly. The projects will be executed laboratory experiments, pilot production tools at the R&D center, and scale-up in collaboration with our manufacturing sites. The candidate should enjoy learning, problem solving, and potentially designing new processes and process technologies.
Under the direction of the group leader, the candidate will formulate coatings, produce lab scale samples, operate pilot scale coating equipment, assist plant trials, and analyze the experimental outcomes. In addition to designing experiments for the candidate's primary projects, the candidate will be expected to conduct experiments to support projects led by others. The candidate should demonstrate an open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility and seeks out others to enhance and streamline development and decision making.
Competencies:
- Knowledge of organic chemistry and/or polymer materials science
- Ability to work independently on several projects simultaneously
- This individual will be expected to run their own experiments or guide technician run experiments to further technology understanding, develop product prototype, and support pilot scale processes and ensure correlation of lab and pilot processes into manufacturing processes.
- Working in a matrix organization, the candidate must possess oral and written communication skills to interact effectively with people from a wide range of background including business, manufacturing, research, engineering, technicians, and operators.
- Document accomplishments in clear and coherent technical reports and presentations.
- Possess a mind set for the value of proper and safe handling of chemicals and the environment.
- Experience with Microsoft office suite is required.
- Industrial experience in coatings, formulations, design of experiments, process scale-up, and roll to roll processing is a plus.
- Experience with programming (e.g., Matlab, Python, R, VBA, Labview, etc.) is a plus.
- Experience with process automation and control is a plus.
Bachelor's Degree Material Scinece, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or other related disciplines
