JOB DESCRIPTION
To support the efforts of Bandag R&D by performing tasks defined on work orders originated by R&D engineers, QSE, GES, etc. using standard lab procedures and test equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties:
- Follow all safety processes and procedures. Document LOTO, PPE, ECP & work instructions for assigned equipment
- Provide safety training for assigned equipment
- Follow safety protocols (PPE, etc ) & proper work instructions/standard operating procedures for various rubber testing laboratory equipment, i.e. rheometry, tensile testing, etc.
- Basic understanding in the operation and maintenance of all lab testing and rubber processing equipment
- Perform routine maintenance, equipment calibrations and cleaning on assigned lab equipment
- Foundational understanding of the Bandag retread process
- Knowledge to work with rubber compound and solvents
- Perform cure studies & blow point trials
- Responsible for putting out a quality product
- Responsible for reporting and acting on problems that affect safety, housekeeping or the quality of products and procedures
- Responsible for keeping records of work accomplished and effectively reporting findings
- Provide coverage in the shop as assigned or for personal development
- Responsible for completion of assigned tasks on lab work orders with minimum supervision
- Must be licensed for fork truck operation
- Responsible for operating for truck per safety requirements
- Responsible to assist other departments as appropriate
- Must be able to assist in safety equipment rescue training and act if necessary
Technical Knowledge *:
- Basic skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Capable of efficiently using existing computer hardware and software systems to collect laboratory information, operate equipment and run standard diagnostic programs
- Fundamental understanding of Statistical Process Control
Interpersonal Skills *:
- Must be able to collaborate in a team environment effectively
- Good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with others in a professional manner
- Committed to continuous learning
Physical Skills:
- Must be comfortable lifting upwards of 75 lbs either solo or in tandem as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
A two-year Associates degree in chemistry or related science. Bachelor's degree preferred.
