We are currently searching for a Biologist to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC, and it is on-site in Bethesda, MD.

  • Perform serology assays using established ELISA and Bioplex assays to support malaria vaccine development.
  • Contribute to the development and validation of newer serology assays for preclinical and clinical platforms, as required.
  • Perform in laboratory experiments and techniques such as: isolation and purification of nucleic acids from samples collected from preclinical studies and clinical trials.
  • Perform ELISA, PCR, sequencing, and other immunological methods for analysis of clinical and research material.
  • Perform a wide variety of complex procedures and techniques, such as buffer preparation; SDS[1]PAGE; western blotting; ELISA; thermal shift assays; and nucleic acid purification and other cellular assays; maintaining and using automated liquid handling robots to perform ELISA's and BioPlex studies.
  • Perform optimization of PCR and sequencing based protocols to support preclinical and clinical vaccine studies.
  • Perform periodic quality control checks on laboratory equipment as required.
  • Maintain records of samples received in the lab and assist the sample management teams.
  • Assist other lab staff as required with laboratory experiments and related work and learn new techniques.
  • Assist in maintenance and general upkeep of the laboratories.
  • Attend scheduled laboratory and section meetings.

  • B.S. degree with a minimum of two (2) years' experience working in a research laboratory.
  • Previous experience working of ELISA assays.
  • Background in biology, chemistry, immunology, and/or assay development.
  • Relevant laboratory experience in automation and instrumentation.
  • Good documentation and communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills including experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. More advance experience e.g., familiarity with PowerPoint and other graphics programs is a plus.
