Job Description
BAE Systems, Ordnance Systems Inc. (BAE Systems) operates a munitions propellant manufacturing facility at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant (RFAAP) in Radford, Virginia. The primary mission of the RFAAP is to supply solvent and solventless propellant and explosives to the United States Armed Forces. The RFAAP is a government-owned; contractor operated military industrial installation under the jurisdiction of the United States Army. Manufacturing operations at the RFAAP commenced in 1941 and have been in continuous operation ever since. Currently, the RFAAP is recognized as the largest supplier of ammunition propellant to the United States Department of Defense (DOD).
BAE Systems is in search of an experienced environmental professional to join the Environmental Department and help the RFAAP s mission of supporting the warfighter. This position will serve a core role in the oversight and management of BAE Systems environmental compliance operations. The position s performance and work products will be visible to senior management and are intended to be held by highly-motivated and highly-skilled candidates. As a member of the Environmental Department, this position will be dedicated to advancing the environmental compliance and operational best practices of BAE Systems. A strong understanding of compliance rules and regulations in the water sector is essential. Additionally, the role will support other technical environmental missions across RFAAP and work to continually improve and maintain conformance with BAE Systems ISO 14001:2015 Certified Environmental Management System (EMS). The candidate will promote and model, through self-practice and encouragement in fellow employees, BAE Systems professional and community involvement. This position will report directly to BAE Systems Environmental Manager.
Nature and Scope-Principal Areas of Responsibilities:
- Support the continued development, operation and maintenance of environmental programs.
- Monitor, track and prepare (or assist in preparing) permits, plans and reports related to the existing and future operations of RFAAP.
- Effectively operate within a team dynamic to motivate and support peers in achievement of shared objectives, and be able to shift priorities depending on project requirements and deadlines.
- Conduct internal inspections of various process and operations to ensure conformance to BAE Systems EMS and compliance to regulatory requirements.
- Be on-call on a rotating schedule to support operations during environmental events.
- Support modernization and construction projects as RFAAP works towards upgrading propellant manufacturing processes designed in the 1940s in 1950s
- Recommend solutions to operational and technical problems
- Perform other duties as assigned

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Bachelor's of Science Degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or other related technical field.
A minimum of two years environmental compliance experience.
Ability to use Microsoft Office applications, specifically, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Strong interpersonal sills to effectively interact with people at all levels, both internally and externally.

Experience in a chemical manufacturing setting.
