General Information: This position is part of the Mississippi/Alabama Region in Southern Timberlands and will report to the Meridian Area Manager. It is a full-time, exempt position located in Meridian, MS.
Key Functions
The Silviculture Forester is responsible for general forestry requirements such as early-rotation and mid-rotation functions, and contract administration. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Silviculture plan execution in compliance with regional silviculture strategy and the annual plan
- Field-verification of silviculture treatment candidates and provision of setting-specific recon information to management
- Silviculture contract negotiation, silviculture operation supervision, timely status updates for system activity updates, and monitoring of contract performance including safety, SFI, EMP, production, cost and quality
- Processing of silviculture invoices and payments
- Verification of silviculture performance and efficacy
- Addressing contract noncompliance and performance issues
- Support of other functions to include Planning, Harvesting and Geographic Leaders
- Bachelors degree (or higher) in Forestry or related field OR Associate degree with equivalent work experience
o Preference: Bachelors degree (or higher) with at least 2 years' related experience
- Basic forestry skills
- Knowledge of state, federal, safety, wildlife, water and forest practice rules/statutes
- Willingness to abide by established safety standards
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience in project management and contract administration
- Problem solving skills
- Capability to prioritize work activities and assignments
- Willingness and skills to support the work needs of the team outside your area of assigned responsibility
- Teaming skills including the ability and willingness to work in a diverse team environment
- Basic math skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn Weyerhaeuser forestry practices
