About the Job

We are currently seeking an As-Needed, qualified biologist holding an appropiate permit under Section 10(a)(1)(A) of the Endangered Species Act to conduct Casey's June beetle surveys. The qualified biologist will join our southern California biological resources team in conducting a Casey's June beetle ( Dinacoma caseyi ) habitat assessment, protocol-level focused presence/absence surveys, and to prepare environmental documents per permit conditions. We are particularly interested in someone with experience with Casey's June Beetles (e.g., protocol-level surveys) as well as someone with general field and documentation experience and/or an interest in learning these professional skills. This position will be based out of our La Quinta office.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Habitat assessment for Casey's June beetle
  • Preparation of USFWS 15-day notification prior to conducting protocol surveys in accordance with the Section 10(a)(1)(A) permit conditions
  • Two-consecutive year focused protocol-level presence/absence surveys for Casey's June beetle in accordance with the USFWS 2016 Survey Guidelines
  • Preparation of focused survey letter report documenting the methods and results of the surveys and submittal to the USFWS within 45 days of the surveys, in accordance with the USFWS requirements

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, entomology, ecology, or related natural resources field
  • 1-5 years' experience with environmental consulting, natural resource planning and management or related field
  • Qualified biologist holding an appropriate permit under section 10(a)(1)(A) of the Endangered Species Act to conduct Casey's June beetle surveys

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with beetle species identification
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork in challenging terrain and weather conditions as necessary
