We seek a motivated Cardiovascular Biologist to join the Therapeutic Discovery group. This is a chance to help shape the company's future pipeline, as you will be involved in discovering and leading new cardiovascular disease programs. You will utilize your talents to perform cutting-edge research to generate data that will drive decisions around new disease opportunities. Your primary role will be to manage external research collaborations, while multi-tasking internal studies to evaluate different disease targets.

You will lead one or more projects and/or programs to enable the discovery and evaluation of novel rAAV therapies. You will be expected to drive scientific strategy, manage in vivo cardiovascular studies, and independently design and execute experiments using a wide variety of cell and molecular biology techniques in order to test the therapeutic potential of rAAV vectors. This position requires a strong cardiovascular physiology background. This is an approximate 50% lab-based position in a BSL II material laboratory.

  • Act as the scientific lead on one or more cardiovascular disease programs
  • Manage in vivo cardiovascular disease studies with academic collaborators and CROs
  • Independently design and execute various cell-based assays using iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes
  • Contribute to and drive scientific strategy for Therapeutic Discovery programs
  • Independently analyze and interpret data and present results to project teams

  • Develop and optimize mRNA (qPCR), protein (ICC) and functional assays (calcium imaging, multi-electrode arrays)
  • Conduct molecular cloning and preparation of rAAV transgene constructs
  • Contribute to technology development related to cell biology
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date records of laboratory activities via electronic documentation
  • Technical writing of procedures, protocols, and reports

  • Ph.D. in molecular or cell biology / physiology or other relevant scientific area, with minimum 3+ years' experience
  • Expertise in mechanisms of cardiovascular physiology and pathophysiology
  • Knowledge of in vivo cardiovascular disease models and endpoints (echocardiogram and electrocardiogram)
  • Strong written and verbal communications, including critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated experience effectively managing multiple projects and staff and troubleshooting experiments
  • Demonstrated problem-solver who thrives on solving scientific challenges
  • Self-motivated and driven professional who can effectively perform in a rapidly changing, start-up environment
  • Must be able to work independently, but is also a team player with strong collaborative skills
  • Strong attention to detail, along with strong organizational and documentation skills

  • Previous drug discovery and project management experience is desired
  • Relevant knowledge and industrial experience in the field of gene therapy development is preferred
  • Calcium imaging, multi-electrode arrays and whole-cell patch-clamp recordings in cardiomyocytes
  • Molecular cloning experience
