Positi on Summary
BD R&D Microbiology is looking for a Supervisor to join our team. The opportunity is for an innovative clinical microbiologist to guide and be an active contributor in the development of diagnostic products used in the clinical microbiology laboratory. This person will oversee multiple lab locations that include molecular assays and culture based microbiology. The R&D Supervisor is accountable for ensuring the timely completion of R&D related tasks and is responsible for preparing and monitoring budgets. This position may collaborate with external partners for training and customer insights.
Key Responsibilities
Oversight of projects (and coaching peers and staff members) to meet schedules and resolve technical or operational problems.
Develops and administers budgets including capital equipment, schedules and monitors performance by planning and working with team members
Develops and implements protocols to achieve scientific objectives.
Provides direct on-site supervision of specimen workflow, test performance, quality, compliance, and associated documentation
Adept at influencing, coordinating and communicating effectively with others to accomplish goals.
Proactively maintains supply and reagent inventory utilizing lean principles
Establishes biosafety level 2 laboratory standards of excellence; assures consistent implementation by all associates
Constantly supervises and improves systems for increased efficiency and eliminates rework and waste.
Provides subject matter expertise and troubleshoots issues across all platforms.
Encourages and participates in continuous quality improvement
Creates/supports an environment that fosters teamwork, cooperation, respect and inclusion of diversity.
Recruits, coaches, develops and retains qualified, competent staff. Crafts and maintains an environment where staff feel valued, appreciated and recognized.
Professional Skills & Key Competencies
Requires at least a bachelor's degree in medical technology or related field
Minimum of 6 years' experience as a medical technologist or equivalent in a laboratory environment
The ideal candidate must possess accomplished communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. We require a minimum of 1 year of staff management and development skills.
Candidate must work optimally as part of a cross functional team
Use of critical thinking skills to identify problems and analyze facts to provide logical conclusions.
Experience in a research and development environment specializing in the development of microbiology diagnostic products is preferred.
