ICF is looking for Inorganic Environmental Chemists to join our team to support an EPA contract, the Environmental Services Assistance Team (ESAT), in Region 5 - Chicago, IL EPA lab location. This team provides technical, analytical and quality assurance (QA) support, primarily to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund Program, other EPA programs, Federal and state agencies, and tribal organizations to facilitate identification, assessment, regulation, and remediation of environmental hazards which may pose a threat to human health or the environment. These requirements necessitate that EPA gather and/or generate information on which to base administrative, regulatory, and/or human health decisions.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry (preferred), Biology, Physics, Geology, Environmental Science, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, or related science. Ba sic computer skills ( e.g. Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat) and familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMSs).
- Minimum of three years' experience in analyzing environmental samples in various matrices for metals using ICP orICPMS .
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills and the ability to think critically.
- Must be a uthorized to work in the US MUST BE ABLE TO PASS an EPA background check to obtain access to US federal property.
- Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Experience using EPA methods for sample preparation including Methods 1311 , 1312 (TCLP , SPLP ) .
- Experience related to contaminated site characterization, remediation, and optimization at contaminated sites including Superfund, Brownfields, and RCRA Corrective Action sites.
- Willingness to acquire skills in Organic analysis such as GC, GC/MS, LC/MS/MS and HPLC.
- Possession of OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and current 8-hour refresher is desirable.
