VP Head of Biology
Exciting company with cutting edge technology seeking an exceptional biology leader as Vice President, Head of Biology to lead Discovery Biology team and drive multiple cutting-edge RNA editing drug discovery programs. This company is backed by the number one venture capital company, they are doing very, very well and once a candidate interviews, they are HOOKED on this company!
The job responsibilities include:
* Serve as a member of executive leadership team in the Company
* Provide strategic and scientific leadership to project teams to advance drug discovery programs from early stage to candidate nomination
* Lead the team of biologists who are responsible for the design, development, and execution of in vitro and in vivo assays to support progression of the programs
* Collaborate with the cross-functional teams to propose and evaluate novel target and indication opportunities
* Move programs forward in a fast-paced environment
* Interpret, summarize, and present research findings at internal and external scientific meetings
* Develop budget and staff projections for biology team
Qualifications:
* Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Systems Biology, or related field with, relevant post-doctoral employment experience
* 15+ years of drug discovery experience with demonstrated success in drug discovery and development
* Previous successes in identifying potential drug candidates and getting them to clinical
* 10+ years of strong leadership, motivating teams
* Strong strategic scientific and technical leadership in the design, execution, analysis, and interpretation of assays to drive programs and elucidate mechanism of action. Taking a program from concept to clinical.
* Deep understanding of classical pharmacological principles and drug discovery process
* Ability to critically analyze and interpret data, and effectively document and communicate results and recommend next steps
* A track record of evaluating and leading external collaborations
* Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with strong verbal and written communication skills
* Demonstrated leadership abilities to inspire, direct and manage scientists, and move activities across multiple drug discovery programs forward in a timely manner
* Successful track record in managing biology department/teams including Ph.D. Scientists and Research Associates
* Assay development expertise, including biochemical and cell-based assays
* Track record of innovative translational in vitro and/or in vivo models
