THE POSITION:
As a part of the Protein Analysis R&D team, a Staff Scientist will plan and perform laboratory experiments and assays associated with the development of novel protein analysis solutions and workflows using a variety of techniques, including protein electrophoresis, western blotting, flow cytometry, and immunoassays. As a Staff Scientist, you will work at the bench in a laboratory setting. You will be involved in innovating and developing new product concepts. You may be required to stand for long periods of time and must be able to work safely with chemicals and other hazardous materials.
- Independently designs and executes laboratory experiments, generates laboratory protocols, analyzes experimental data, presents results and writes technical reports
- Work with a team of scientists and engineers to develop reagents, instruments, and software for protein characterization, detection and quantitation
- Identifies and resolves a variety of problems in experimental designs
- Contribute well-considered ideas for new products and improvements to procedures
- Communicate ideas and results effectively in a team setting
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of relevant fields and techniques
- Applies expertise and knowledge of industry trends to identify new opportunities for novel product offerings that address customer pain points in support of long-term business goals
- Interacts closely with other internal departments including Marketing, Business Development, Product Management, Technical Support and Manufacturing
REQUIREMENTS / EDUCATION:
- Ph.D. degree in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or related discipline with a minimum of 2+ years of post-graduate experience. Strong candidates with Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of experience or a Master's degree and 5+ years of experience will also be considered.
- Strong technical/scientific knowledge of protein analysis techniques and analytical instrumentation
- Experience with Western blotting and other immunoassay applications (ELISA, Luminex, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to work in a matrix work environment with multi-disciplinary teams
- Demonstrates strong leadership, Business Acumen and the ability to work independently to lead research in innovative Western blotting and immunoassay-based workflows and assays
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interpret and summarize scientific results in a clear, concise, and accurate manner
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to efficiently evaluate, prioritize, and adapt to changing project priorities.
- Previous industrial experience and product development preferred
- Experience with instrument development preferred
