RMI is leading the energy transition by creating market and technological solutions to impact Climate Change. RMI is seeking Associates or Senior Associates for our Climate Intelligence Solutions team, focusing on analytical research of greenhouse gas emissions using remote sensing and numerical models.

RMI is looking to hire an Associate/Senior Associate within the Climate Intelligence program, with a focus on reducing methane and carbon dioxide from Oil and Gas supply chains and landfills, among other anthropogenic sources. The Climate Intelligence program relies heavily on remote sensing data, including emerging satellite technologies and airborne-based sensors, as well as analytics of industry and consumer data to create actionable insights. RMI is seeking a talented, geospatial scientist with experience collecting, ingesting, or applying remote sensing data along with associated multivariate datasets to handle complicated problems. The applicant will be part of a team of analysts working with political and industry leaders, as well as an external body of scientists, to implement effective strategies for greenhouse gas mitigation.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Source, filter and analyze open-source remote sensing datasets and satellite imagery
  • Select and QA/QC appropriate datasets based on sensor and acquisition specifications
  • Perform multivariable analysis of geospatial and temporal operational datasets for actionable insights
  • Operate and create analytical tools for handling multivariate datasets
  • Offer technical assistance on greenhouse gas emissions monitoring capabilities
  • Engage with expert community of satellite, remote sensing and greenhouse gas monitoring professionals
  • Perform literature reviews and data sourcing to support greenhouse gas analytical models
  • Manage stakeholder relationships, including scientific collaborators and insight user groups, to drive greenhouse gas mitigation
  • Synthesize recommendations into clear and compelling presentations
  • Present quantitative information in a clear, visual format for public consumption, such as for whitepapers, journal articles and RMI publications.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required (in an applicable field such as engineering, environmental or physical sciences). Master's of PhD in a related field is a plus.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in Remote Sensing, GIS, and/or analytics.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in scientific programming languages (Python, R, Matlab) and GIS software (ArcGIS/QGIS)
  • Demonstrated familiarity with remote sensing technologies, sensor capabilities, and spectral analysis.
  • Background or familiarity with greenhouse gas emission remote sensing or satellite technology preferred
  • Strong problem-solving, research and writing skills
  • Driven, entrepreneurial, demonstrates initiative and creativity

We invite candidates with a variety of skillsets, educational and work backgrounds. Ideal start date is June 2021.

Location:

The position will remain remote through the COVID-19 pandemic. Once the COVID-19 situation improves, it is expected that this role will be based out of one of our offices in Oakland, CA, Washington, D.C., New York City, Boulder, or Basalt, Colorado. This will be discussed further throughout the interview process.

Compensation:

The incoming Associate salary range is $68,000 - $75,000 and the incoming Senior Associate salary range is $76,500-$85,000. Salary and level are dependent on experience that will be vetted throughout the interview process. Both levels have an additional 5% bonus target.
