The Tumor Microenvironment Modulation Thematic Research Center (TME TRC) (Redwood City, California) is developing new therapies at the intersection of tumor, stromal and immune biology within the tumor microenvironment to enhance the responsiveness to checkpoint blockade and other targeted therapies. Comprising of scientists across multiple disciplines we are responsible for the biology and translational science driving drug discovery to clinical proof-of-concept. We are seeking a highly motivated and scientifically excellent Director to join and lead drug discovery efforts related to lymphoid cell biology.

Position Summary:
The successful candidate will provide scientific and strategic leadership for the Lymphoid Biology team within the TME TRC, including responsibility for advancing a portfolio of small and large molecules from discovery through to human proof-of-concept. Building and expanding upon the strong site history in developing foundational immunotherapies, you will lead, manage and develop a team of researchers performing innovative research to discover and develop novel therapeutics targeting lymphoid biology within the tumor microenvironment including, immunocytokines, regulatory T cells, NK cells and other innate lymphoid cells. The role will require close collaboration with Translational and Predictive Sciences groups within the TME TRC to evaluate patient segmentation and biomarker opportunities. Moreover, you will engage with stakeholders at other BMS TRCs on areas of complementary biology; Immuno-Oncology/Cell Therapy (Seattle), Oncogenesis (San Diego) and Mechanisms of Cancer Resistance (Cambridge) TRCs. As a subject-matter expert, you will contribute in the scientific assessment of external TME-focused opportunities and new technologies that complement our drug discovery and translational capabilities.
Requirements:
- Ph.D. and/or M.D. in immunology or relevant cancer biology field
- 12+ years of experience, with at least 8 years working in industry on immunology and/or oncology drug discovery and development
- Decisive leader with a proven track record in fast-paced environments, with a passion for innovation and teamwork
- A strong record of achievement, including leading cancer drug programs and publications in high-impact journals
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including high EQ with strong leadership skills
- Outstanding decision making, organizational, and analytical skills
- Strong understanding of relevant regulatory health authority expectations and regulations for drug development, with a focus on early development but with an understanding of implications toward full development
- Working knowledge of all functional areas of exploratory development, including biology, chemistry, biologics, toxicology, CMC, translational medicine, early clinical development etc.
- Ability to effectively multi-task across exploratory discovery and development assets
- Demonstrated ability to objectively assess complex but relatively sparse data sets, make informed decisions and take action in the face of uncertainty
- Proven track-record successfully managing, leading and developing high performing, cross-functional matrix teams (Ph.D and non-Ph.D.)
- Ability to attract and retain top talent, and committed to talent development and diversification
- Acts as a credible, influential, and respected spokesperson for TME TRC research and early development - internally and externally
- Willingness to take educated risks in moving the business needs forward
- Willing to break traditions, test boundaries and challenge status quo
