Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.

The laboratory of Mirko Paiardini at Yerkes National Primate Research Center (YNPRC) is seeking up to three highly-motivated post-doctoral research fellows to lead recently NIH-funded studies on HIV immunology and persistence. Utilizing SIV-infected non-human primates (NHPs), the fellow will investigate the cellular and anatomical distribution of the quiescent, replication-competent viral reservoir that persists during long-term antiretroviral therapy (ART) and, utilizing cutting-edge immunotherapy approaches, investigate strategies to limit viral persistence and enhance antiviral responses with the goal of facilitating durable viral remission upon ART cessation. Dependent on current funding requests, applicants will potentially have the opportunity to utilize SARS-CoV-2-infected NHPs to test therapeutics and investigate post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (Long COVID).

Located within the Emory University School of Medicine (Atlanta, GA), the Paiardini lab has existing collaborations within Merck & Co., ImmunityBio, and ViiV Healthcare. Interested candidate are encouraged to directly email Dr. Paiardini with a cover letter, their CV, and a list of three professional references, and apply to the online posting on Emory University's Careers site. Recent publications related to the projects with open positions include Hoang et al., Cell , 2021; Harper et al., Nat Med , 2020; and McGary et al., Immunity , 2017. Essential Requirements: We are seeking goal-oriented, creative, self-motived applicants seeking to become independent investigators in the field of immunology. The applicant must be prepared to lead an in vivo NHP study. Candidates should have excellent oral, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Applicants should have a Ph.D. and/or MD degree with a focus on immunology, virology, or cell biology with at least one published first-authored, peer-reviewed manuscript.
  • Possess 0-3 years of post-graduate experience.
  • Fundamental expertise in T cell immunology and experimentation.
  • Experience in independently designing and executing experiments.

Preferred skills:
  • Experience in HIV/SIV immunology or animal models of viral infection.
  • Proficiency with high-parameter flow cytometry and high-dimensional analyses (FlowJo and t-SNE); droplet digital PCR; tissue processing; and/or ex vivo immunology techniques
  • Experience with data visualization tools (GraphPad Prism and/or RStudio)
  • Prior grant-writing experience and evidence of procuring competitive funding.
