Cures Start Here. At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home to three Nobel laureates, interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists seek new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Fred Hutch's pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation led to the development of immunotherapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to treat cancer. An independent, nonprofit research institute based in Seattle, Fred Hutch houses the nation's first cancer prevention research program, as well as the clinical coordinating center of the Women's Health Initiative and the international headquarters of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. We are committed to ensuring that all candidates hired share our commitment to diversity, antiracism, and inclusion.

A postdoctoral research position in cancer biology with a focus on single-cell and functional genomic technologies is available at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The Hutchinson Center provides a challenging academic and supportive multi-disciplinary research environment.

We are seeking a recent or prospective doctoral graduate (Ph.D. or equivalent qualification) with a background in cell and molecular biology and/or related subject areas to cancer biology, epigenetic regulation, and single-cell genomics. Candidates should have an interest in the investigation of novel, interdisciplinary research questions related to mechanisms of tumor cell quiescence and cell cycle egress/ingress.

This position will be under the direction of Drs. Patrick Paddison, Professor of the Human Biology Division, and Anoop Patel, affiliate member of the Human Biology Division and Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery (UW). For this project, the team also includes a staff scientist, post-doc, technician, and Dr. Eric Holland, director of the Human Biology Division at Fred Hutch.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be co-mentored by Drs. Paddison and Patel and engaged in studying novel regulators of tumor cell quiescence. Work includes use of single-cell genomic and functional genetic tools in animal models and human samples.

  • A Ph.D. or equivalent degree is required with background in cell and molecular biology, cancer biology, and/or functional genomics
  • Experience with single-cell genomic methodologies and analysis is preferred
  • Experience with in vivo murine models of cancer is preferred
  • The candidate must show initiative, the willingness to take up new skills and responsibilities, and be a team player
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently are essential to success in this position, as are good communication and organizational skills
