This Manager, Microbiology Laboratory position will support R&D and manufacturing facilities by providing expertise and continuous improvement in the areas of biological indicator supply, container/closure integrity testing, bioburden/sterility validations, and Bacterial Endotoxin (BET) and PG validations and testing.
The position will ensure appropriate expert input, review and approval of procedures, protocols, investigations and final reports as well as associated regulatory submissions while managing Microbiology Laboratory resources, assets and capital.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrated understating and technical expertise of theories/practices of a variety of disciplines within the microbiology landscape.
- Develop effective project schedules and manage budgets, including capital. Employ project management tools to manage to those project schedules and budgets; review and apply best-demonstrated practices, team processes, and improve operational efficiency.
- Identify and initiate discussions with key stakeholders and providing guidance in terms of actions regarding projects (i.e. timing of market entry, innovative technology and costs).
- Generate innovative solutions to complex problems through the use of multiple disciplines and technical principles. Create innovative products/processes/methods through novel combinations of expertise within the organization.
- Understand and collaborate with team members about the market niche, competitive forces influencing the project, and how the project fits into the function's strategic focus/plan.
- Support and manage team members to effectively transfer technology from design development to implementation.
- Capable of analyzing and solving complex problems through innovative thought and experience, as well as, project management tools.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant Quality System Regulations and other regulatory requirements related to research and development (product development, design.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors in microbiology, or related discipline, with 10 years experience or 5-7 years experience with Masters and 2-4 years experience with PhD.
- Expertise in scientific disciplines such as biological indicator supply, container/closure integrity (physical and microbiological methods), BET/PG.
- Direct microbiology laboratory experience required.
- Proficient and working knowledge of relevant GMPs, FDA guidelines and industry standards (ASTM, ISO, PDA, USP).
- Able to design and implement projects/studies in own area of expertise. Must demonstrate effective supervisory/leadership skills in a microbiological laboratory environment.
