VHB is seeking a Senior Environmental Planning Project Manager to join our growing Hauppauge, NY office. This person will be involved with a variety of projects as a member of the Environmental Planning Team and will be responsible for the leadership, coordination, and development of SEQRA and NEPA documents for a diverse number of markets including real estate, energy, institutional, transportation and state and local government.

Demonstrated experience with the development of Draft and Final Environmental Impact Statements, and a strong understanding of the entitlement process is a must. Complementary experience with municipal master plans, land use and zoning, urban design, grant writing, community engagement and expert reports and affidavits is desired. The successful candidate should have experience as a Project Manager, Deputy Project Manager, Discipline Lead, or another comparable position with a similar skill set and level of responsibility. The position requires excellent organizational and management skills and the ability to lead a diverse team of planners, engineers and environmental scientists as well as communicate with clients, municipal reviewing agencies, and the public.

About the Position

Senior Environmental Planning Project Manager | Hauppauge, NY

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a Project Executive, Project Manager, and/or Discipline Lead on SEQRA/NEPA compliance projects for a variety of sectors (e.g., real estate, transportation, energy, institutional, and state and local government) on Long Island and in Westchester
  • Prepare and/or review environmental analyses and documentation pursuant to SEQRA/NEPA
  • Coordinate with technical staff and project management teams across disciplines to advance projects
  • Prepare and manage scope, fee and project schedules
  • Serve as technical lead on project pursuits
  • Develop and maintain client relationships to grow business
  • Participate in regional visibility events and help raise VHB's prominence in the region
  • Mentor and manage junior staff
  • Provide oversight, direction, management, QA/QC, and ongoing open communication to staff and subconsultants
  • Attend and participate in public meetings and hearings

Qualifications
  • BS/BA in Environmental Science, Urban Planning or related field, masters & AICP preferable
  • 10+ years of professional environmental/planning experience
  • Expert in SEQRA/NEPA; experience with municipal master plans a plus
  • Experience in managing other staff and team members
  • Experience with public presentations and public hearings
  • Project or task management experience
