Abt Associates seeks a public health expert with specialization in climate change to support national, state, local, and tribal governments. Specifically, this individual will join a team of professionals in developing and deploying climate change and energy strategies that help achieve public health goals, eliminate environmental racism, and promote environmental equity.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Conducts research and analyses of new and emerging climate-related health policies, initiatives, and cobenefits with a racial equity lens.
- Provides expertise on public health policies, environmental equity, and environmental racism, and their intersection with climate change and clean energy strategies.
- Coordinates direct engagement with federal and state government clients and actively represents government interests in project work with other stakeholders.
- Manages complex projects with government clients.
- Plays a leading role in internal Abt strategic planning and business development efforts.
- Supports program design and implementation for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Agency for International Development, and other federal and state agencies.
- Develops tools and resources to support analyses of public health and equity cobenefits of climate and energy solutions.
Preferred Skills/Prerequisites
- Strong commitment to racial equity and social justice.
- Experience evaluating equity and environmental justice considerations related to climate change and clean energy.
- Experience developing or implementing public health programs that integrate climate change and clean energy solutions rooted in equity and environmental justice.
- Expertise in public health impacts and benefits assessments.
- Experience leading business development efforts, including market research, client engagement, opportunity capture, and proposal writing.
- Experience engaging with diverse populations, specifically BIPOC communities, low to moderate income communities, and other communities that suffer disproportionately from the adverse effects of climate change and environmental racism.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Strong familiarity with federal and state government policies and programs.
- Skills to prioritize multiple responsibilities, learn in a changing environment, communicate effectively with diverse audiences, and be a strong team motivator.
- Experience consulting with or working for federal and state government agencies.
- Published peer review journal articles or agency reports with an emphasis on epidemiological and/or climate change research.
Minimum Qualifications
- MPH/MA +7 years of relevant experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Background in public health, epidemiology, climate change, energy, environmental justice and equity, community resilience, or a related field.
