The Manager, Environmental Health and Safety oversees the continuous improvement, implementation, and compliance of the environmental, health and safety programs for ATCC. The Manager, Environmental Health and Safety is responsible for assessing the company's workflows based on risk levels and determining what practices are necessary to keep employees safe on the job.

The Manager, Environmental Health and Safety in conjunction with members of the Senior Management Team, implements policies for the use of personal protective equipment. The incumbent also details procedures for potentially dangerous tasks, so that employees know how to do their jobs with the least risk of injury.

  • Responsible for implementing a continuous safety training plan for all employees
  • Develops and implement risk assessment system for all functions and tasks.
  • Assures company's compliance with all environmental and safety regulations and standards.
  • Leads safety audits and inspections.
  • Develops and manages company-wide safety committee.
  • Updates all safety and environmental reports and information on a timely manner.
  • Develops, implements, and updates safety procedures and Safety Data Sheets.
  • Plans and conducts emergency drills.
  • Coordinates the work of outside contractors (within the EHS scope) and monitors their performance.
  • Provides management with reports as requested.
  • Maintains department metrics as required.
  • Available to respond to emergency environmental and/or safety situations at all times.
  • Follow up on accidents, incidents, near misses, and employee safety concerns.
  • Responsible for all OSHA reporting aspects.
  • Manages and reviews corporate hazardous waste program in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations and standards.
  • Responsible for ensuring that ATCC Bloodborne Pathogens Program, Serum Program, Chemical Hygiene Program and Respiratory Protection Program are in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and standards.
  • Responsible for new employee safety orientation and contractor safety training.
  • Travel and work on all ATCC locations as required.


  • Education and Experience:
    • A Bachelor's degree in technical area is required plus eight (8) years minimum work experience in Environmental, Health and Safety position.
    • A robust background and experience handling chemical inventories, fume hoods, safety cabinets, GMP, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomic assessments, Bloodborne Pathogens, and biological laboratory environment aspects is required.
    • A robust background and experience in handling hazardous waste disposal, waste sterilization processes, energy conservation, EPA regulations, Storm water regulations, Clean Air Act, and Clean Water Act is required.
    • Project Management background is a plus. Lean / Six Sigma Green Belt certification is a plus.
    • BioSafety experience is a nice to have

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Able to work in BSL-2 and BSL-3 environments.
    • Excellent communication and people skills.
    • Demonstrated leadership skills.
    • Available to work during extended hours and/or weekends.
    • Ability to work under pressure
    • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
    • Good computer skills
    • Excellent analytical skills
    • Able to lift 25 lbs.

    • Perform other duties as assigned.
