What You Will Do
As the Group Leader for Waste Management Programs in Environmental Protection and Compliance Division you will have the opportunity to work in an exciting and fast paced environmental compliance program. You will provide technical leadership, oversight, and management of site-wide Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) permitting and compliance, waste planning, characterization, certification, the internal waste compliance and tracking system (WCATS), assessments, and the training and qualification of waste workers. The Group Leader will be central to the achievement of Division goals for programmatic, business, and operational excellence and be responsible for strategic planning and execution of waste management programs.
A successful Group Leader will have experience in personnel management and strategic planning. The Group Leader will foster high quality compliance oversight and technical support for principal stakeholders across Los Alamos National Laboratory. The Group Leader will need to manage a high volume of compliance deliverables, reports and procedures and work with legal to help lead the Group and the Laboratory through highly visible permit negotiations. An emphasis will be placed on ensuring the Waste Management Programs Group has the capabilities needed to support programmatic mission success through resource allocation, effective succession planning, mentoring, recruiting and retaining a qualified, diverse, and inclusive staff.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Advanced knowledge and experience with federal and state environmental and waste management regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience in effective personnel management, mentoring, effective leadership of a diverse team of highly functioning professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively with internal customers, regulators, stakeholders, and the public.
- Experience effective personnel management and leadership that emphasizes an inclusive work environment, organizational skills and strategic and tactical planning, team building, program development, project management, and budget preparation and management.
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve complex issues.
Education/Experience : Position typically requires a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in physical sciences, environmental, civil, or chemical engineering, public health, hazardous materials management, waste technology, other related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Demonstrated commitment to, and action in, promoting safety and security, quality, and workforce diversity, as well as knowledge of Laboratory objectives; and
- Demonstrated experience working in a complex organizational structure

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
