Job Description:
What's the role?
Shell Trader Development Programme (TDP) is a dynamic, individualised programme like no other. Typically, it takes 2-3 years to complete but no two trainees follow the same route. We'll assess your strengths, weaknesses, experience and aptitude and then tailor a rotational programme that allows you to develop the competences you need - both to meet the requirements of the trading desk you're assigned to today and to be an accomplished, allround trader tomorrow.
You'll be working alongside, and learning from, some of the best traders in the business; tapping into a wealth of insight and experience. Participants will build solid understanding and hands on experience of the key systems associated with the life of a deal - Operations, Demurrage/Claims, Contracts, Credit, Risk Control, Scheduling, Analysis and Trading strategies/ fundamentals.
There are regular performance reviews and assessments to review your progress and support
your development with the right level of coaching and feedback. Along the way, you'll sharpen your
ability to analyse markets and manage risk and learn how to successfully negotiate and structure deals -
everything you'll need to apply for a permanent trading role with us on completion. It is contingent to
pass all relevant assessments and achieve sign-off from the programme to be considered Trader Ready
and to be competitive for any trader roles. In the event that candidates do not meet the criteria to be signed off from the programme or become a full time Trader, on mutual agreement their departure window will open, they will be supported to find alternative roles as per local policy.
What we need from you
- Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
- Bachelor's degree is required.
- You don't need trading experience to join us, but would possess minimum of 3 years of work experiences. You could come from any of the CoBs in Shell - Finance, Manufacturing, or any of our commercial businesses.
Commercial acumen
You'll need to cultivate an incisive understanding of global energy markets work - that means you should be entrepreneurial, self-motivated and commercially acute. With a keen interest in how business works, you're passionate about working in trading and excited by the prospect of unearthing opportunities to create monetary value.
Analytical
You're numerate and highly analytical. You've shown you can digest wide amounts of information from different sources, pinpoint the relevant details from a huge range of data, and synthesize it to form critical insights and trading strategies.
Adaptable
The market changes by the minute so you need to be comfortable thinking on your feet and making quick decisions, even if you don't have all the facts at your command. Speed of thought is vital; you're someone who can move easily between a micro and macro view.
Collaborative
This is a highly open, collaborative environment where we achieve results through teamwork. You'll
be talking to colleagues and contacts all over the world, so you'll need to be able to change your social style to suit your audience. We value people who've proven they can persuade and influence; in English and in a mother tongue like Arabic or Chinese if you are operating in those markets.
Responsible
In trading, the risks you take must be calculated and the decisions you make considered. You'll be
accountable: someone who takes responsibility for their decisions and can adhere to both the letter and the spirit of all relevant legislation. You'll always work with Shell's values of honesty, integrity and respect for others firmly in mind.
An innovative place to work
There's never been a more exciting time to work at Shell. Everyone here is helping solve one of the biggest challenges facing the world today: bringing the benefits of energy to everyone on the planet, whilst managing the risks of climate change.
Join us and you'll add your talent and imagination to a business with the power to shape the future - whether by investing in renewables, exploring new ways to store energy or developing technology that helps the world to use energy more efficiently.
An inclusive place to work
To power progress together, we need to attract and develop the brightest minds and make sure every voice is heard. Here are just some of the ways we're nurturing an inclusive environment - one where you can express your ideas, extend your skills and reach your potential...
- We're creating a space where people with disabilities can excel through transparent recruitment process, workplace adjustments and ongoing support in their roles. Feel free to let us know about your circumstances when you apply, and we'll take it from there.
- We're closing the gender gap - whether that's through action on equal pay or by enabling more women to reach senior roles in engineering and technology.
- We're striving to be a pioneer of an inclusive and diverse workplace, promoting equality for employees regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
- We consider ourselves a flexible employer and want to support you finding the right balance. We encourage you to discuss this with us in your application.
A rewarding place to work
Combine our creative, collaborative environment and global operations with an impressive range of benefits and joining Shell becomes an inspired career choice.
We're huge advocates for career development. We'll encourage you to try new roles and experience new settings. By pushing people to reach their potential, we frequently help them find skills they never knew they had, or make career moves they never thought possible.
