Location/Division Specific Information
This position is part of the Research and Development team located at the Hunt Valley, MD site. This site is part of the Bioproduction Division within the Life Sciences Group.
How will you make an impact?
The Scientist I, Cell Biology will focus on supporting the design and development of cell culture media and supplements. The selected candidate will also design and execute experimental plans with guidance and analyze data, generate laboratory protocols, and contribute to technical reports and product summaries. A Scientist I must be able to work flexible hours.
What will you do?
The candidate will carry out laboratory experiments in small scale bioreactor systems associated with the development
of cell culture media formulations.
- With guidance, designs experimental plans and executes experiments, analyzes data, generates laboratory protocols, and contributes to technical reports and product summaries
- Maintains and operates bench top bioreactor/ambr microbioreactor systems with guidance
- Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of data requires an evaluation of various factors
- Exhibits creativity in selecting approaches and techniques for obtaining solutions
- Investigates new methods and technologies and maintains accurate lab notebook to support protection of intellectual property in accordance with relevant Thermo Fisher required standards
- Performs duties independently with guidance from manager
- Complies with all company safety, training, and quality regulations and procedures
- May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned
How will you get here?
Education
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or other related discipline, or equivalent knowledge and experience with 0-2 years' experience
Experience
- Experience with small scale mammalian cell culture techniques
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate scientific results in clear, concise, and accurate manner
- Excellent organization skills, including the ability to efficiently evaluate and manage multiple project tasks
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Familiarity with the operation of bench-top stirred tank bioreactors and related process development laboratory equipment
- Experience with high throughput cell culture technologies, such as ambr microbioreactor system
- Previous experience with cell lines used in protein production applications (e.g. CHO, HEK293, NS0)
