The Safety and Environmental Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with safety and environmental procedures and will be responsible for the continual research, team member training, advice on safe engineering controls, and implementation of compliance requirements. This position will ensure that all entity locations, such as warehouses, offices and storage areas, are safely maintained and compliant; that Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards are followed throughout the business; take full responsibility for all safety programs and projects. Plans, directs, and implements organizational safety programs to ensure safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment.
Principal Accountabilities:

Plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA and Occupational Safety and Health Act rules and regulations.
Responsible for all safety, health and environmental training and record keeping.

Update Injury and Illness Prevention Program.
Update all Emergency Preparedness Plans (EPP), Business Continuity Plans and Disaster Recovery Plans. Work with departments to ensure all Disaster Standard Operating Procedures (DSOPs) are updated.
Review all new product Safety Data Sheets and make recommendations. Maintain the Safety Data Sheets online. Conduct regular audits. Work closely with Product Managers and Operations teams.
Responsible for the Ergonomic Program. Partner with our brokers and HR team members that conduct ergo assessments to recommend safe engineering controls by eliminating risks and recommending proper ergonomics for the company.
Responsible for the HazMat Program, including spill containment and disposal of hazardous materials.
Administer the Regroup Mass Notification© emergency system. Test and review the established templates and train the EPP Committee on how to send messages.
Plan and execute annual disaster drills for three (3) distribution center locations. Perform necessary evaluations to identify gaps and areas of improvement.
Lead accident and injury investigations and prepare materials and evidence for organizational use during hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations. Submit accident reports in a timely manner.

Responsible for all general liability claims filed on behalf of the company, such as rental car accidents or property damage. Investigate, secure policy reports/pictures, and submit timely claims with our carrier and track to completion.

Partner with the HR team to help administer all workers' compensation claims to their full completion. Meet with managers on a regular basis to manage and reduce work-related claims.
Implement and develop procedures and training programs to effectively reduce accidents/injuries and improve team member safety awareness.
Update and track all recordable injuries on OSHA logs, submit them to the U.S. Department of Labor annually, and post summaries annually at each facility.

Provide information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
Plan and implement programs to train managers and team members on worksite safety practices, including fire prevention, the correct handling techniques of chemicals, toxins, and equipment, the code of safety for warehouse, office, and other materials, forklift training, etc.

Create essential safety tools for managers and team member use. Review, coordinate and reduce insurance costs such as workers' compensation.

Plan and conduct monthly safety tailgate meetings for Warehouse staff.
Plan and conduct quarterly safety meetings for administrative staff and remote team members.
Review quarterly safety inspections for all facilities to detect existing or potential accidents and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where applicable, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.

Ensure we have teams trained and certified in First Aid, CPR and AED.
Train all evacuators and first aid teams twice a year with expectations and what to do in case of an emergency drill, evacuation and/or disaster.
Meet and assist with our annual loss prevention audit at each location.
Ensure fire extinguishers are checked monthly and annually by outside vendor.
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all regulatory issues, except as necessary to perform the functions of the position.
Continuously strive to improve processes and service quality to internal and external customers.
Comply with the policies and procedures stated in the Injury and Illness Prevention Program by always working in a safe manner and immediately reporting any injury, safety hazard, or program violation.
Ensure conduct is consistent with all Compliance Program policies and procedures when engaging in any activity on behalf of the company. Immediately report any concerns or violations.
Display dedication to the positions responsibilities and achieve assigned objectives.

Travel:
Ability to travel up to 30% of the time to our facilities in North Carolina and Texas.
Education and Experience Desired:

Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a management role.
Five (5) to 10 years of progressive safety experience working in manufacturing and/or distribution environment.

OSHA certified a plus.

First Aid and CPR and/or AED trained and certified.

Typical Office Environment:
No unusual exposures in the office environment. May be exposed to hazardous drugs, loud noises in warehouse, cold climate in refrigerators and freezers. May be subject to inclement weather during travel to North Carolina and/or Texas.
Equipment Used:
Operate office equipment copier, printer, laptop, calculator, phone, two-way radio, computer software, warehouse tools and equipment.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to regularly use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, controls and equipment. The employee must be able to walk, sit and stand. The employee occasionally lifts up to 40 pounds and occasionally kneels and bends.
