How will you make an impact?
We are looking for a cell culture scientist to join the Thermo Fisher Scientific Cell Biology R&D team. The scientist will be responsible for identifying and developing technologies for incorporation into new products, generating application data, and supporting marketing initiatives. They will initiate, direct, and execute scientific research individually and as part of cross-functional development teams to reach these goals.
What will you do?
- Establish and maintain cell cultures, including both cell line- and primary cell-based models
- Express recombinant proteins using bacterial, insect, and mammalian expression systems at both small (1 L) scales
- Characterize culture system performance using techniques including automated cell counting, microscopy, immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry, and gene expression
- Track and compile results to support protection of intellectual property in accordance with relevant Thermo Fisher Scientific standards
- Interact closely with other internal departments (i.e., Marketing, Business Development, Quality, Operations and/or Technical Services) in the commercialization of new products and troubleshooting of existing processes
- Perform duties independently with only general direction given
- Comply with all company safety, training, and quality regulations (e.g., ISO compliance, GLP/GMP requirements, etc.) and procedures
- Work in a laboratory environment, be able to lift up to 40 lbs, and be able to stand for long periods of time while performing duties
- Work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials
How will y ou get here?
Education
- Strong background in cell biology with a Master's degree and 5-8 years of experience, or a Ph.D. with 0-3 years of experience.
Minimum Qualifications
- Cell culture expertise, including established cell lines and/or primary cells
- Demonstrated experience in expressing recombinant proteins in mammalian, insect, or bacterial cells
- Must possess demonstrated ability to design and conduct research independently
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interpret, summarize, and present scientific results in a clear, concise, accurate manner to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated ability to generate new ideas, achieve results, and solve problems
- Excellent time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with new product development
- Familiarity with development of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) products
- Exposure to culture volumes 1 L
- Experience in characterization of cells via antibody- and nucleic acid-based analysis
- Familiarity with Design of Experiments principles
