Our location in Carlsbad, CA, currently has an opportunity for a Sr. Scientist. The Sr. Scientist will have biochemistry/enzymology expertise to research projects and deliver on goals and objectives. Propose, design, set-up and validate biochemical assays and purification processes, with strong troubleshooting skills and attention to technical details.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Extensive practical knowledge of protein biochemistry and enzymology.
Critically analyze and interpret experimental data, including results from multi-functional teams. Document experiments in a thorough and timely manner.
Maintain knowledge of scientific and competitive advances from literature and conferences; propose and develop a forward plan of action.
Clear presentation of research outcomes and recommendations to cross-functional teams.
Foster a spirit of collaboration, teamwork, and motivation within the research team.
Evaluate and summarize data using analytical methodologies, interpret results, draw conclusions and recommend options for future experiments to achieve project goals.
Conceive, plan, design & conduct advanced independent research in compound, assay, process, product, or method development.
May act as lead scientist, project leader, or project contributor.
Provide technical direction and feedback to others.
Directly supervise technical personnel.
Design, plan & execute project related tasks.
Design experiments to test hypothesis related to project outcomes.
Apply advanced scientific knowledge to projects; determine priorities for experiments.
Independently design and execute experiments.
Assure experimental quality through sound, independent experimental design.
Identify technical alternatives from literature review.
Recognize & resolve technical problems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOU'LL BRING
Required
BS/MS Degree in the sciences
Formal training in one of the following main fields of study is needed: Biochemistry, Enzymology or Molecular Biology.
Experience in protein purification and demonstrated use of multiple protein purification technologies, such as Protein A, Size Exclusion, Ion Exchange and HIC required.
Preferred
Ph.D. in a life or physical science preferred with up to two years research or industrial experience Formal training in one of the following main fields of study strongly preferred; Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Molecular, Cellular & Development Biology, Cellular Physiology or Molecular Biology
Experience with automated chromatography systems would be helpful
Experience with presenting results of projects both internally & externally; present complex technical data to large and diverse groups
Ability to train others on the theoretical and practical basis of techniques, processes and assays
Familiar with project planning, process updates, & experimental design Prepares & align impact goals with department goals
