Description
Burns & McDonnell's office in Bloomington, MN, is actively seeking an Environmental Studies Project Manager to manage projects and support client development for our environmental division. The technical areas encompassed by this position include environmental surveys, NEPA analysis, permitting, siting, and routing, and other various permitting services across utilities, oil and gas, renewable energy and other sectors. This position may be located in our Minneapolis Regional Office or our Duluth, MN, branch office.
This position provides the opportunity to challenge and grow yourself professionally within one of the industry's leading firms. Be on a team that solves our client's issues and problems for environmental and engineering practices in the planning, permitting, design, and remediation service space.
The candidate should have an established and successful history managing and leading tasks for both small and large-scale projects including but not limited to assisting with developing proposals and cost estimates, leading and executing project tasks, managing project budgets and forecasts, delivering client satisfaction, and mentoring staff.
The Senior Scientist/Project Manager will work within our Environmental Services (ENS) Global Practice to perform the following duties:
- Project management, team leadership, management & mentoring of junior staff;
- Preparing studies, evaluations, NEPA and state documentation for all types and sizes of environmental projects;
- Leading habitat assessments, species-specific presence/absence surveys, avian and bat studies, other state and federal protected species-specific studies;
- Leading land use, DOT, and other entitlement permitting efforts;
- Experience managing and navigating the PUC process in MN and the region is desired;
- Developing, cultivating, and strengthening relationships with clients;
- Assist with developing business for the Minneapolis ENS Global Practice;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualified candidates will have experience in the following areas and with the following agencies:
- National Environmental Policy Act
- State and Local Environmental Permitting
- State and Local Land Use Permitting
- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
- U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
- National Marine Fisheries Service
- United States Forest Service
- State Wildlife Agencies
- US Forest Service
- BLM
Specific experience in electricity transmission, oil & gas, renewables, transportation and other similar markets is preferred. Experience with the resources and regulatory agencies in the central U.S is a requirement. Local and regional knowledge and relationships with existing clients is preferred.
Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Environmental Science, Ecology or Wildlife Biology or related degree from accredited program.
- Minimum 7 years of related consulting experience in a wide variety of areas ranging from leading and managing technical teams, project management and business development, and must also be able to effectively balance their direct and indirect utilization rates.
- 10 years of related consulting experience is preferred.
- Nationwide experience is a plus.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are required to develop and maintain relationships.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Working understanding of GIS
- Excellent writing skills.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong experience working with both private and public-sector clients.
- Client relationship development experience is a plus.
