About the Job

We are seeking a mid- to senior-level coastal engineer to work collaboratively with our planners, scientists, and engineers to help public and private clients successfully navigate planning, design, and permitting challenges in the coastal zone. The successful applicant will serve as a technical specialist and project manager informing coastal policy development and program implementation, and preparing analysis and design documents for a variety of topics, including but not limited to sea level rise adaptation, flood prevention and protection, erosion management, and coastal structures.

This is an exciting opportunity to support projects and business development efforts for our established engineering and coastal planning practices as well as our growing climate resilience practice in California.

This full-time position may be based at one of the following California offices: Oakland, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, Pasadena, San Juan Capistrano, Encinitas, or San Diego.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare technical analyses and reports on topics such as flooding, erosion, sea level rise, sediment management, and restoration, e.g., vulnerability assessments, design calculations, feasibility analysis, and review of coastal projects.
  • Prepare design and contract documents (plans, specifications, and cost estimates)
  • Present information understandably to colleagues, teaming partners, clients, agency staff, and other project stakeholders.
  • Support proposals for coastal projects.
  • Participate in professional organizations, conferences, etc. to stay informed on the latest trends in coastal engineering as well as represent and promote Dudek.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Environmental or Coastal Engineering.
  • California Professional Engineers license in one of the above disciplines (or ability to apply for reciprocity).
  • 10 or more years of professional experience in physical coastal processes (experience beyond California is a plus).
  • Familiarity with coastal analysis and hydrodynamic modelling software and technical standards and developments within the industry.
  • A basic knowledge of the California Coastal Commission and regulatory processes in the California coastal zone.
  • Interest in working with experts across disciplines to promote multi-objective solutions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree.
  • Marketing experience, including development of proposals, participation in interviews, and successful contract negotiations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Service-oriented, motivated self-starter with sound business practices.
