About the Position

Senior Soil Scientist | Providence, RI

Responsibilities
  • Wetland delineations to identify and document indicators of wetland hydrology; dominant plant species in three structural strata; and field indicators of hydric soils in New England
  • Preparation of wetland functional assessments and evaluation of impacts to existing wetland services by proposed project activities
  • Wetland mitigation site evaluation, design, monitoring and functional assessment
  • Preparation of soil profile descriptions following USDA NRCS nomenclature
  • Familiarity with the flora of southern New England and ability to key out plant species using floristic keys
  • Erosion and sediment control planning
  • Environmental permitting, NEPA/MEPA documentation, local, state and federal wetland permit preparation
  • Construction monitoring to confirm adherence to permit conditions

Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to work in field settings under a variety of weather conditions alone or with a partner
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be highly motivated and a team player
  • Knowledge of local, state and Federal environmental regulations

Requirements
  • BS degree in environmental science, ecology, plant, or soil science, or related field
  • 10+ years of professional environmental consulting experience with a focus in soil science
  • Ability to travel, as needed, to support offices and projects
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), and/or Professional Member of the Society of Soil Scientists of Southern New England, or Certified Professional Soil Scientist by the Soil Science Society of America and/or Certified Professional in Soil Erosion Control (CPESC) desirable. RI Class IV Soil Evaluator License also desirable
