Wood is currently recruiting a motivated, skilled Geologist or Environmental Scientist with 2 to 5 years environmental/consulting experience that enjoys technical challenges to join our Lexington, Kentucky team. This position requires an individual with effective communication skills as client, agency, public, and team interactions are expected. We are seeking an individual with experience conducting and planning for site assessments, due diligence projects, and remediation projects under RCRA, CERCLA, VRP, and Brownfields regulatory programs, as well as other related environmental projects. Candidates should be self-motivated, have experience working in a team environment, and be able to work on projects with variable complexity.

Key Responsibilities:

This person will be a member of a team providing a versatile range of environmental consulting services, such as due diligence, pre-demolition surveys, soil identification, soil and groundwater sampling, hazardous building materials/asbestos sampling, and demolition and remediation oversight, to government and private industry. This position will support a wide variety of environmental compliance projects. Some of the responsibilities of this position will include:
  • Conduct due diligence projects, including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment field work and technical report preparation in accordance with ASTM E1527-13
  • Collect groundwater, soil, waste characterization, and other samples for laboratory analysis
  • Supervise installation and development of groundwater monitoring wells and piezometers according to project scope and federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
  • Adhere to site-specific health and safety plans and defined scopes of work to complete tasks safely, thoroughly, and accurately; prepare or assist in the development of work scope, schedule, and budget
  • Assist in planning the execution of work including subcontractor procurement
  • Assist the Project Manager and team in ensuring effective client and regulatory agency communication and relations
  • Review subcontractor submittals including work plans, health & safety plans, and quality control plans
  • Provide oversight of subcontractors, including utility locators, drilling contractors, and remediation contractors
  • Evaluate compliance of subcontractor work against technical specifications and scopes of work
  • Willingness and ability to problem solve, adapt to site conditions, and develop solutions while in the field and office setting
  • Majority of travel will include project sites located in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Virginia


Required:
  • BS degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or other related technical field
  • 2-5 years of experience
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training
  • Computer proficient (including Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) Strong technical writing skills
  • Demonstrated verbal communication and technical presentation skills
  • Team player and technical contributor
  • Able to define scope, schedule, and budget for project implementation
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with the ability/desire to lead tasks
  • Attention to detail
  • Willingness to occasionally work greater than 8-hours per day
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply information on State and Federal technical guidance, and regulations, and compliance determinations
  • Must pass drug test, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

Preferred:
  • Technical certifications and licenses, such as EIT or PE, GIT or PG, CPG, or CHMM
  • MS degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering, Geology or Environmental Science or other related technical field
