Job Designation

The Health Safety and Environment Specialist provides expertise in the development, implementation and management of effective Safety, Health and Environment programs/systems. Routinely analyzes hazardous situations and identifies alternative courses of action.

Job Core Responsibilities

• Responsible for management, implementation, compliance and all details related to Environmental Health and Safety for the site.
• Works to develop, implement and maintain Health, Safety and Environmental programs/procedures
• Responsible for safety training, coordination and distribution of all weekly safety training topics for all employees
• Coordinates the activities of the Site Safety Committee and serves as the technical resource expert.
• Ensure safety inspections are completed and track corrective actions to completion
• Responsible for development and sustaining safety program in facility through goal deployment process
• Responsible for surveys, safety committees and proper record keeping of all EHS events
• Handle all necessary documentation related to injuries including but not limited to near miss, first aid, accident and incident investigations and reporting
• Ensure environmental compliance through disposal arrangement, hazardous waste records, wastewater reports, storm water plan, chemical usage reports, air quality reporting, solid waste disposal and fire department business plan.
• Coordinates with such agencies as the South Air Quality Management District, OSHA, Environmental Protection Agency, Sanitation Districts, Fire Departments, both State and County Health Agencies, Department of Toxic Substance, Cal OSHA, Cal EPA, DOT and other local environmental agencies, as well as administration of programs prescribed by these agencies
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Job Specifications

Education: Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health and Safety or related Science field

Years of Experience: 3-5 years relevant experience in occupational Safety and/or Environment or other relevant/applicable industry or agency.

Skills:

• Extensive knowledge of industry Health, Safety and Environment regulations/standards
• Solid knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets and hazardous waste disposal procedures
• Strong attention to detail, good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize with changing situations
• Ability to solve complex problems and make decisions based on the analysis of multiple sources of information
• Sound administrative skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
• High knowledge of OSHA standards
• Ability to perform multiple tasks while meeting and anticipating critical deadlines
• Customer focused in addressing safety issues
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Excellent PC skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Problem-solving, flexibility and prioritization skills are required, ability to think outside the box and apply creative solutions to on-going maintenance problems.
• Ability to work independently and use judgment to resolve both routine and non-routine issues
• Ability to work in a team based environment with other levels of the organization
