Position Overview:

The Emergency Response (ER) Specialist will be responsible for managing ER operations and making key operation decisions related from small to large scale emergency response, industrial spills, highway accident cleanups, and complex emergencies involving natural disasters, fires, civil disturbances, hazardous materials, chemicals and other pollutants for NRC's national, regional, and local customers. This role is critical to the success of the NRC ER Program by providing guidance of the NRC ER quality control program, compliance with NRC ER Standard Operating Procedures and direct interface with our customer base.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Remotely directs and coordinates or manages activities of the ER service center(s) to optimize operational efficiency while protecting workers and the environment.
  • Identifies and determines closest and most capable field resources for type of emergency response being received based on location, event, capability, pricing and estimated time of arrival.
  • Coordinates services by providing cost estimates, project work authorizations, identify response locations, determining response times, etc.
  • Ensures the company complies with all pertinent federal, state and local regulations by maintaining accurate documented records.
  • Verifies that resources dispatched match outbound (customer) and inbound reports/invoices and ensures paperwork is properly processed for billing.
  • Oversees customer and field communications.
  • Provides regular reports as required by customer, governmental agencies and senior management.
  • Trains emergency response personnel for call center procedures, regulatory notifications, hazard identification, spill and product transfer process and other items as necessary.
  • Develops and maintains customer relationships to secure future business opportunities.
  • Works with management to ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are properly updated and maintained.
  • Uses internal software to initiate, track and manage responses while using multiple databases.
  • Performs other, related duties as assigned. These are duties may not be specifically listed in this description, but which are within the general nature typically associated with the employee's level of work.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Sciences or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experienced required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of RCRA, DOT, TSCA, and other applicable regulations, typically gained through 5 or more years of progressively responsible experience in waste disposal, spill management, emergency response, or a related field.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documentation, technical procedures, and regulations. Skill communicating the implications and highlights of highly specialized, technical and analytical work and key insights. Ability to effectively manage and communicate work delivery expectations with customers.
  • Good mathematical knowledge of business math and basic accounting procedure; as well as general knowledge of statistical analysis theory and methods.

Successful completion of a pre-employment background and substance screening process including, but not limited to, employment verifications, criminal search and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) search as well continued verifications throughout employment to ensure that all records meet company policy standards.
